There are a few (too few) safehavens that I shutdown at from time to time that are not truckstops or rest areas, but I feel confident that i'm not going to get a ticket for illegally parking at these areas. In San Bernardino, California (very close to Los Angeles) there is a dirt lot right off I-215 that I shutdown at from time to time so that I don't have to pay to park at the TA truckstop in Ontario or the Petro in Ontario, CA. This dirt lot is right off Kendall Drive which is right off I-215. The dirt lot is at the intersection of Kendall Drive and Palm Avenue, right across the street from a Denny's. There are usually several other trucks shutdown at this dirt lot when I go there.
What are some safehavens that you shutdown at in urban or suburban areas that are not rest areas or truckstops?
Whenever I go to the Seattle area and I need to shutdown at night, I frequently have trouble finding a truckstop or rest area to shutdown at. I'm looking for a safe haven to shutdown at in my big rig that meets the following criteria:
1# the police won't give me a ticket to shutdown there for over 10 hours in my big rig
2# the land owner of the area won't have a problem with me shutting down there for 10 hours in my big rig
3# the safe haven is not a truckstop or rest area
What safehavens do you know of in the Seattle area that meet all three of my criteria here?

I don't give out my hidey holes and I'm guessing most here won't either. It's an exceptional way to lose good guaranteed parking.

Before I describe anything, my personal habit of safehaven selection comes from one important fact.
Parasites, Predators, Thugs waving Ak's, crazy people, Lumpers especially... and bad roach coaches don't get to walk 50 miles out side of the city where Im sleeping ot bother my ### at 5 in the god #### nmorinning...
wow my typing gts really.kipuh
ANYWAY....
That's my safe haven. Seattle has a nice old truckstop on the side of Snoqushamie Pass in the east on the west face, If you are lucky you can compare the pricing menu from 1940 or so to today.
I hold a 50 mile policy.
I always find a spot near a dennys, restuerant, mall of america kind of thing if I have to. I'll jump into a airport with other trucks pretending to deliver or pick up air freight and sleep there. I'll jump into wherever spot I can find that is out of sight of the freeway, ramp, pads etc so the coppers leave me alone.
I hae been down the safe haven road before. They shut down so many in my day, hassliung and rousting drivers to gtfo of here. I-695 at I-795 owinsmills, pikes ville comes to mind. Miles of sleepy time along I-287 got swept after people keep ramming into decap bars at night and beheading themselves.
And so on.
50 miles thug, come to me baby....Last edited by a moderator: Jun 24, 2016

I think it's a DHL place as long as you aren't blocking an entrance or exit or too many car parking spaces they don't bother you. Only slept there a few times though.

There is a patch off US 322 east of & Mountains Grade which is otherwise called Clearwater Mountain I think, I have to look it up in PA.
Yonder patch above river bank to south on the side of US 322, approximately 40 minutes west of US 15 as the crow flies. You can get about 20 trucks into it and sleep under the stars undisurbed by ANYTHING. Some of the very best rest I have had was there. You had to rest up before doing battle westbound Barefoot versus 2 feet of powder in a storm.expedite_it Thanks this. -
I use google earth and find access roads to power substations and stuff......just short gravel drives off of country 2 lane highways usually.
Oh man.....if you guys are ever in the New Philly Ohio area....take 250 East toward PA....hit one of the gravel lots along side Lake Tappan......and enjoy!!expedite_it, JPenn, Lepton1 and 2 others Thank this. -
If you like Pine, the first small rest area just south of 40 on the Phoenix freeway at flagstaff is one. It will clear your cold, flu etc by morning if you leave windows open.

Any where that my truck will fit and doesn't have a no truck/parking sign. Sum times, rules are meant to be broken.

I don't sleep in the truck anymore but know some really awesome places to park around the St Louis area. There is a police department in a rather affluent suburb that has no problem with trucks parking behind there building for the night, which I thought was kinda awesome. I stop there sometimes and have Taco Bell or sushi for lunch. Haul Haz-Mat so it's actually like a real safe haven. Plenty more though

It's a safe haven till that Taco Bell kicks in.....talk about haz mat.Dharok, striker, bottomdumpin and 10 others Thank this.
