I drive a 2001 Freightliner FLD120 day cab, the problem is when I drive over uneven pavement for a something starts banging incessively. The sounds seems to be coming just in front of the shifter and just to the right of the throttle pedal. I opened the access panel in front of the shifter and nothing there but electrical, looked underneath in the transmission tunnel and nothing loose that would be banging. But every time I drive over uneven pavement, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.....smooth pavement nothing....uneven pavement, bang, bang, bang, bang, it's driving me nuts that I can't find the problem and the mechanics said they've looked for years and can't find what is doing it. The sound is not metal like a popping sound, it sounds like a loose flapper door that is just slapping away. Has anyone had this problem?

He he he. If your gauges are in green and happy with no smoke, fire or explosions you are in need of less coffee and stress.

A 1999 fld I had the spring shackles would bang on rough roads and in certain cornering situations even after they were replaced it always sounded like it was from pedal area too

Check where your hood meets the cab, I had a creaking and banging sound that I swore came from the back of my cab anytime I drove over bumps, drove me nuts. Yesterday while fueling I was jumping up and down trying to get it to make noise so I could figure out what it was but nothing. Realized the hood was up and noise stopped. Found a hood bushing that was wore down to the metal.

    Wow "Insertnamhere,
You just gave me a chill with that "Styrofoam gas can" line.

I'm old, and everything reminds me of a story.
Back in the day, like 1972, I had a little farmette with my first wife,
and we were going to have a picnic with about 40 of our friends for 4th of July.
I had an old stone outdoor BBQ with big grates and wide sides and a chimney.
Beforehand, I had started the big wood fire with gas I had in a gallon milk jug.
Purposely put it 25 feet away from everything, and around behind a tree out of sight.
This dizzy broad got it, and poured a "glass of Iced Tea," into a Styrofoam cup!
Needless to say, it was there for a second, then all over her.
If she had a cigarette - it would have been a tragedy.

(Yes, and what was she thinking, we had all the food and drink in a separate area,
on 2 picnic tables in the shade, close to the kitchen and 50 ft. away from fire,
over on other side of yard, next to the bldgs. Couldn't she smell it?
And 1000 other questions. Who know what women think?
OH, NO - "women" and "Think" in the same sentence!
All I know is, I couldn't have gotten the hose in time to save her.)
