You can get a lot of info from a ecm report if you had bought a lot of trucks like you say you would know that.

Okay just an experience I had. I bought my truck in January from auction time.com 2013 pro star auto. I had it two weeks before the emissions seized up. 11k in repairs. But I only paid 17k for the truck. It now runs like a brand new truck and I only have 30k roughly in it.

I've purchased 2 trucks at Richie Bros ... look them over before you purchase. Know the risk, pay the appropriate amount. My luck has been great, both were purchased at around 30% under market value, have been mechanically sound, and were great purchases. As in life, YMMV.

All these things that you all are saying you can't check is where your brain should kick in. You pay less for the truck then . If it works great you got a steal, if it needs repair then it is ok because you covered that with a lower price.

Regardless of what you think I am not going to waste my time arguing with you as you seem to read things into my post that aren't there. My advice was to make sure you buy it right if your at an auction. So flame away sir, seems you have nothing better to do.

I never said they weren't risky. I said buying any used truck is risky dealer or auction. If you reread my thread you will see where I mentioned going over the worst case scenarios of mechanical failure. Trans, motor, rearends etc and figuring what it would cost you to replace if need be and deduct all of that amount that from the current market value of that truck and get an idea that way as to what you should bid. Also leave room for the auction fees. Basically if your going to drive away with an unknown used truck from an auction it better be real cheap. Trailers on the other hand are a little less risky depending on what type. Dry van or flats can be pretty obvious if you know what to look for.
