    Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if I can get an opinion from some of you on purchasing a Freightliner Cascadia with a DD15. I've been researching and they seem to be an overall pretty good truck.

My question is for those who've owned or run one of these, what year would be a good go? I'm obviously purchasing used. What are some things to look out for with regards to mechanical issues that have cropped up?

I would appreciate some advice, as becoming an Owner is a big decision.

    -Thanks.

The company I'm at had a 2009 that they ran with the same driver all the way into 2015. It was a solid truck. DPF changed twice in that time.
I just traded off my 2013 Western Star with a DD15. In just over three years it only did 8 parked regens, all of them because I left the truck running overnight when it was under -30 in the winter.
I currently have a 2016 Cascadia, but with a DD16 and only a month old.

That's pretty good actually. I guess I should add to this since I forgot. Idally I want to get into Flatbed work. My research has that the ideal used trucks are the Cascadia's DD15 and the C13 because of the weight of the engine. With the C13 I've read nothing but problems with the regens, except for on this forum which someone found a solution that you would have to Regen more. I know there's a lot of animosity towards DEF but I want to have the option to go to the West Coast. Thanks for your reply.

    I ran a 2012 Cassie DD15 for about 160k miles... 340k ish to over 500k.

Was in the shop twice for DEF problems. The first was a defective def regulator. About $350 total repair cost. The second was a momentary flow problem but it caused an EPA mandated derate. Seriously, 45 minutes and $70 to clear at Columbia Freightliner in MO. 45 minutes because I got there 30 minutes before they opened.

Also in the shop twice for injector issues.

Never had to do a parked regen.

That's about the same as a company Volvo I'm driving, but it's just a DEF sensor that has malfunctioned due to heat, if I remember correctly. It's been mostly electrical, but that's common with these trucks.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm trying to find an older model with a DEF component that works. Another truck I'm considering is the C13 CAT, but again numerous problems from what I've heard.

I also hear the 2012 DD15 are real headaches. Buddy bought a used one from Arrow and has been constant headaches and verge of bankruptcy. I would say if the 2012 time frame is in your budget get a glider with 60 series Detroit if you get a 2015 or newer the DD15 is a great engine. Probably the best bang for your buck on new trucks.

Well, Badboy0121, "DD 15 has not seen a shop except for a issues..." isn't that why truck go to the shop anytime? Except for PM's that is, and TAP is selling them for $199 thru 08/31/2016, a giveaway.
