Ok, I bought a brand new BP monitor and I got my BP all the way down to 133/80. I went in to the chiropractor for my DOT and the reading was 154/90! Something wasn't right. First, there was no chair for me to sit in. I had to sit up on a chiropractor bed, so I didn't have a chair with an armrest and had no back support. I told her that my arm needed to be elevated on an armrest instead of leaning and she went on about that not meaning anything because my arm was laying on the bed and she's never had a problem with any other patients doing it. Second, the cuff was put on well below my arm crease. (I thought it was suppose to be a couple centimeters above?) I told the lady that i bought a brand new BP monitor from the pharmacy and it's in the bag I have and they said it might not be qualified, so they didn't even bother checking it. They give me a 3 month card and emphasize I need to lower my pressure. I go back home which is 5 minutes away and check my pressure with my brand new machine and it is showing 136/88!

My question is, even after I was given a card, can I still go get a DOT at another place? If the card is 3 months, do I have to come back at that exact location with the same doctor? I am trying to get into trucking school and hear that wont accept you with a 3 month card.

    Find a #### doctor. A proper one.

You sir, have a blood pressure issue. It needs looking into. I too once had issues back in the day it's that steak, taters and eggs plus coffee and smoking in the morning prior to the visit. The office adds another 10 plus points to both numbers.

You write about all the little tiny things that you require to get the lowest number possible. I thought I knew how to do it back then.

So you got a 3 month card. Fine. After three months gone, find a proper doctor. Don't be cheaping out in a quack back doctor imatelling you.

I hate to be hard on the BP stuff. Most people don't realize that a high value in BP runs a risk of stroking out right then and there at 70 mph and 40 ton ... computer cruise will run you into 50 cars and kill em all (To paraphrase and exaggerate a little) you get the idea why BP is important?

Lessoned learned. Question is, if I already have a 3 month card with this chiropractor and know for sure that their BP monitor/technique is bullshyt, can I go get a DOT physical somewhere else today?

Don't do it. Take your 3 month card and run on that. When it expires go for another doctor.

    Why?

There is a chance you will be labeled a doctor shopper if you constantly went to different DOT card issuers trying to get a year card on a known recorded issue.

Your back doctor only gave you 3 months to cover his ###. He was not willing to sign his name and certify you good for however long, one year or more.

Eat your three months medicine, go find a proper doctor and I think by then you will have resolved your BP problem. You have to. I did. But it took a few months and getting the eff out of the grocery with the yelling and screaming.

Alright, so I don't have to go to the same place after 3 months, I can go somewhere else, right?

I'm trying to enroll into a company paid CDL school. Will they take me with a 3 month card?

You just wasted your money, the school will have you take another physical at their cost and wherever they choose

Sure. This is America. You can find anyone you like. Just be sure it is a proper MD with the authority to issue DOT cards. Maybe even better a Aviation doctor who can test the bejesus out of you. But that's not all. You want a doctor you like and can work with when you break a leg or something.

Schools are hardly worried about your DOT medical. Mine could care less. But you have the three month card. Have at it. Hopefully you graduate in three months right? Remember I went to school like back in the frigging 80's a real show back then.

One other thing I just remembered.

Doctors will be checking you for exams when you try to hire on to a company. I think it was Concentra that did mass physicals for dozens of people per day back in the day. I hope you did not pay for it. You probably did. Call that lesson learned and spilled milk under the bridge.

I had covenant try to test my hearing in a room with 50+ yammering drivers. Impossible. They were stupid. I sued them to find out the limitations were against me and they can test anywhere they like even in a room against a wall....

I was turned down by a Nurse Practitioner, she did not issue me a card. I went a week later and got a 2 year card from my normal DOT doctor.

Shopping around for Doctors? Lets just say I am not all that impressed with the medical community. When you stop and think about it we are trusting our lives to someone who thinks his gggggrandfather was a monkey.
