Owner operators cost carriers less money than a company driver. So that tell me Company Drivers make more than an \\\\\owner Operator. Right???
-
That makes sense. Could it be because the company has to maintain the equipment and pay additional expenses (insurance, plates, employee benefits etc) in addition to driver wages?

For us to make and informed decision we will need to see numbers were you are planning to lease on

After 17y as an o/o I sold my WesternStar in January. Times have changed, sometimes you have to change with it.I don't miss the stress. Happy now as a company driver.

On the days when the truck is running strong, pulling hard, and working absolutely flawlessly? I love driving my own truck. Then, you have the day (hopefully few & far between) where things don't go so smoothly...and on those days, when I'm covered in grease fixing something on the side of the road and NAPA has just made their 5th trip out to my location with more parts, pieces, and whatever else I may have needed, I find myself envying the company driver...who makes a phone call, and the company arranges for the truck to be repaired/towed/whatever and puts you up in a motel until it's done. Luckily the trouble-free days far outnumber the trouble-filled ones...by a LOT. If that wasn't the case, I'd be hanging up the keys and finding something else to do. I love to drive, but for me to fully enjoy it, the vehicle has to perform the way I feel it ought to. I took great care spec'ing my truck so that it would work...and it does. Climbing into an under-powered, over-geared, cut-back POS just simply isn't an option for me. I'd rather go change tires @ Walmart than being stuck behind the wheel of a truck spec'd by an accountant for it's theoretical ability to "save fuel". Some of these trucks, if you add up all of the percent fuel increases of all of the crap they have, their tanks should be overflowing...aero, tails, fairings, skirts, stupid singles, single screw/dead axle, direct drive w/ 2.xx gearing, governed to 60 mph, etc., etc., etc...absolutely ridiculous.
Brettj3876 and nate980 Thank this. -
Yes. That's one of the reasons.
