I am about to go to CDL school for class A but need a pre-hire letter before I can begin. The admissions rep at the school is contacting company recruiters trying to get me one but I wanted to know If I can begin to contact companies myself and see if I could get things to speed up a bit? Also does a pre-hire letter means I have to work for that company once I complete school.

Thank you for any and all feedback.

That is a bit odd of a school requirement. Is this class paid by some other party by chance? A pre hire just means you look good on paper. It is not a job offer. Many are weeded out in the selection part of the orientation. You can apply on your own to any company pending you complete the course and get a CDL.

Curious, I've had several companies say they won't talk to me until i had a CDL...

Yes my school is through a funded program in my area and they just want to make sure I have prospects and not having to go through school under the program and then can't get a job soon.

    Thanks for your feedback again

Must legit companies if they know you are in a school will process you for a prehire pending your completion and obtaining a CDL

Most of the training co's will offer a pre-hire. Should not be a problem obtaining one.

It's harder NOT to get a prehire letter than to get one from what I've dealt with. Just go and look up some companies applications, send em out, and you should get the prehire letters without an issue. This does NOT lock you into THAT company however, just gets you past the odd requirement for one before school.

For what it's worth, Schwift and Wormer both sent me prehire letters after expressing an interest, and before even starting school...

All that above said, and agreed with -

The other part of your question was unresolved.

No, it won't be any faster if you send in the applications yourself. In fact, the school would probably get a response faster. I know mine did
