I have an 870 isx cummins. 04 international. Well the actuator airline blows air. The turbo sounds fine, but when the air pressure builds up, say 40secs, it will squeal when the accelerator is hit. The mechanic changed the air control valve but it is still doing it. He doesn't know and suggests capping the airline that actuates the actuator.

He told me the turbo will run wide open??????

There was nothing wrong with the air control valve. Tn o ring in the actuator has blown allowing the air to pass out the shaft. Remove the air line from the actuator. Hook the actuator to shop air. If air blows out the shaft you need to replace the actuator. Judging by the sounds of your mechanic he really really isn't a mechanic.

Well he capped the air line that adjusts the waste gate actuator. I have a new turbo on at 15 psi of boost it makes noise. It's still pretty doggish. I didn't have power before the turbo was replaced. The previous turbo had a bunch of high temp alarms.

It squeals when it builds boost pressure? I'd be looking at the connections from the turbo to intercooler and back to the intake. You could have a loose clamp.

At worst a hole in the intercooler. Had one of those. Ran like crap, mechanics couldn't find it, yet I was able to locate it by running the truck at high idle. Showed it to one of the higher ups before it was replaced.

    bigguns Thanks this.

When I get a chance I'll try to record it and post it. At 15 psi it makes the noise.
