I gave a lift to another driver up in Georgetown CO while driving a rent-a-car on some days off up there. Just got done with the Georgetown Loop train-ride and Mine tour(Been wanting to do that ever since seeing it from the 70 when doing long-haul five years ago). Dude was broke down a few miles up the road and walked into town to get some coolant from the Family Dollar not far from the freeway.

####. I'm old enough to remember when it was cool and not serial killer rapey dangerous to hitchhike. 1971, I was all over the islands with my thumb out.

There has always been n element of danger with it, but nothing like now. Too many weirdos out now, that would have been locked up in the loney bin then.

No kidding. I've been offered a ride before when stuck on the side of the road and I'd honestly rather walk 10 miles in the rain than get in a car with a stranger.

    Mtn Gal Thanks this.

We have a lot of summer camps in my home area, as a young guy I would always stop and pickup the counselors when they hitched a ride into town. They were from all over the world, looking for a good time while exploring America, and very appreciative. Had some of the best times ever with these girls, it became a game for my cousin and I to see who could get the best hitchiker for the weekend. Learned a lot from those girls, especially the Australian and Spanish girls, wow. Plus, I was 16 or 17, they were in their early 20's but the bar wouldn't bother with ID, so I could drink without question, the bartenders assumed I was just another counselor, good times!

As for the big truck, only have picked up three in my 24 years, and all three were legitimately in trouble, one I witnessed the fight with her boyfriend, the other two were breakdowns in the middle of no where. I don't recommend doing it anymore, too many crazies out there, heck I didn't like having some of the customers in my tow truck, and we had to give them a ride.

Big Don and bzinger Thank this.
