Interesting forum. I have CB'd for some fifty years and can attest that the CBs of the 60s are like model T Fords compared to today's radios. A good radio tech. can load up the new boards far beyond their factory component limitations. I bought a Galaxy DX 959 SSB a few months ago and had Screwdriver do my alignments and tune up. Out of the box, the radio was pushing 3.1 watts,,bla, bla bla, bla; and all the other factory lousy, out of the box settings. I was told the the importers deliberately set their radios low so they won't get into crap with the FCC. Admittedly I am now running well over four watts; I freeband: which most hams hate. I set up a Sirio antenna (which really made a huge difference), my coax is trimmed to the point of minimal slack, The stock mic that came with the Galaxie is sitting in my basement gathering dust.
What really causes problems with CBers are the idiots who rev up their radios and have no idea (or just don't care) what is being received by those on the other end. Some have no idea what a radio frequency means, how it works, or does to other electronic equipment. They don't give a second thought about walking over someone else's conversation. I Side Band a lot, and and Freeband to get away from the garbage when going through cities. The biggest drawback to CBs are those who are those who are not policed, have no idea what respect is and ruin it for everyone else.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -

Read this manual and you will learn some interesting stuff about coaxial cable -
Guess i have yet to read it closely enough..Ill look it over again in detail rather than scan..

There's two kinds of cables. The one you have mirrors the feed Point impedance at the other side of the cable at 27.205mhz.
Any electrical length of cable other than what you have will transform the feed Point impedance to something other than what it really is. -
Your referring to marks coax right?
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
He refers to it as an impedance repeater in one of his videos. Supposedly it helps attenuate unwanted signals as well by being resonantLast edited: Jul 9, 2016
