I would say since you just bought a house that buying a truck with 500k on it is a huge mistake. Could run another 500k without issue or need 30k worth of work after 1st load. Seriously, unless you can pay cash and have 30k in savings its too big of a risk. I am not trying to be a downer just very realistic. Sure picked a tough area to be an OTR driver. Good luck and think about doing local line haul like other guys suggested.

That would be great. He uses e-logs now. I can even help look for loads while he's driving. We work well together when needed. Can you private message me info?

Any thought about being a gas hauler?
-
He averages $1000 a week now. Some $800/900, but sometimes $1100-1200 when he has a trainee. We would definitely need to get a reliable truck to prepare in case of repairs. We might pay more from a dealer just to get some type of warranty.

I looked up their used inventory. $40-50k and majority had $1 mil miles+

He doesn't have hazmat endorsement. What's pay like?
-
Not everyone has that kind of money. We were in NY, but a ####### at his job said they'd make a local position for him in FL. Turns out the guy was just trying to be nice.

Yes, there are always variables. Mind if we ask if you have income? That would make a big difference in if buying a truck on a gamble makes sense. I have been around big equiptment since I could walk. Trucks/Vessels/Tractors with diesel engines can run forever and the next day need a inframe or various disasters. Break down 1,000 miles from home and have a 700$ monthly payment(cheap) and no savings youre in trouble. Honestly I think he should stick it out a while. I have 17,16, and 12 year old boys so I am thinking of your kids here.

I stay at home with kids so no income. We could use credit cards too. Have $10k in bank. It's hard to save now.

My mother's husband is an O/O leased to TMC, and has been for many years. He is home on Friday afternoons, leaves Sunday night or Monday morning, and is often home overnight on Tuesdays. They are quite well off financially. He pays cash for a new KW every 4-5 years. He is a clean, friendly, hard-working guy (which helps one get the good loads).
I would encourage your husband to try that out as soon as there are more funds available. Just my $.02pcsn0122 Thanks this.
