Today really sucked. Truck didn't get out of the shop until 12 pm. Didn't get a load until 2:15pm had to go to New Orleans to pick up the chassis for an intermodal container, then had to deliver it in Harahan, Louisiana but when I get there at 5pm because of traffic & waiting at the rail yard for the chassis the guard says they closed at 4pm. So basically I have had get another day where I made no money. Only the 50 or so miles I drove to New Orleans. The Appt. time for the intermodal I'm picking up in Harahan is tomorrow between 9-12 but it's 210 miles away. The yard in Harahan doesn't open until 8am so no way I'm Making that appt. so I had to update my ETA & everything. My dbl is already gone so I guess I'll hear from her in the morning. This really sucks. I know it all comes with trucking but it sucks lol. I had such a great week last week only to be let down this week. I'm learning that once the money starts coming in I better put me a rainy day fund to the side for those weeks that I have that are just like this one. Anything can happen....

I HATE short loads with a dry van, I'd really hate tankers
Thull Thanks this. -

@Friday - you are technically correct. The dbl does have SOME discretionary authority to pay out. If they abuse it, they lose it in a hurry. OPS managers make Scotsmen look like spendthrifts and will crack down hard.
Worst Thull can do is ask. -
When I was with bulk, detention started after 2 hours and paid a max of 14 hours per detained day, they won't pay a full 24 hours because of the 10 hour break, which I think is BS. I once got over $400 in detention pay sitting at a paper mill.

Don't worry, it gets even worse....lol, like delivering some elephant snot, get a preassignment and finding out the Qwash is closed or delivering elephant snot and it takes a Qwash 2 to 3 hours to clean your hoses and pump or showing up to a preload that isn't loaded and then blowing your 14 hr clock, waiting and waiting and waiting....however, you will begin to average about 1500 to 2100 a week (miles), which will make up for some of the bad times...although I am a bit jealous of the Prime guys who deliver food grade and all seem to have APUs on their trucks....Thull Thanks this.

It should never take more than about 15 minutes to have your pump and hoses flushed.
Which Qwash takes hours? -
Thull: Tanker yanking is a job that can go from sugar to s*** real quickly, but you've got a good attitude so you'll be fine. There are some days this job takes a lot of patience, but as you gain more experience, those days will get fewer and farther between.
Thull Thanks this. -
Polymer takes a while to get out of hoses and the pump, however at the Chitown Qwash they did it within an hour, at the Atlanta, Qwash well everything is an hour for them to even get to your pump and hoses, then of course there is NJ, at least they now have it set up where u roll in exchange hoses, thank god I didn't have to have the pump washed....Thull Thanks this.

I'm starting to see that now. Man the WAITING game is Rediculous! I got here yesterday at 2:30pm to pick up a trailer. I hooked to it, did the pre trip then notice there is no paperwork (BOLs). I call extended the guy says he can't get it & made many phone calls to get it but couldn't. So I had to wait for my DBL to get in this morning about 8am she says they want me to take the load & they are trying to get the paper work. Anyways it's 11:23am now & ive been sitting here almost 24 hours! Waiting on freaking paperwork! Like really!?!? Man this is not cool at all. I'm not making any money.....
