image.jpeg The company I'm leased to bought a used Utility 48'x102" combo, which was used for hauling pipe. The rub rails have been cut to allow the pipe stakes to come up closer to the deck. Is it legal? I can find what I'm looking for in the regs.

I don't see why it wouldn't be, some trailers don't even have a rubrail.

    Why wouldn't it be legal.
I'm sure be fine. You can spec a lodeking flat deck with interrupted rub rail . So basically every place there's no rub rail they mount a winch .

    I think your fine .

10-4, thanks guys. I was just thinking this might be one of those rules that's intentionally vague and left open to interpretation by the officer. Just don't want any trouble.

I don't know how the company we bought it from was getting away with running those pipe stakes like that. They are almost 107" wide. Oversize load when empty! Those will be coming off. Just wanted your opinion on the rub rails.

    You are allowed 3" per side for securement devices I believe. So 102 + 3 + 3 = 108.

I know what your saying. I pulled a Quick Draw for years, but for some reason I'd hate to have to tell the DOT that that was a securement device. I can hear him now. "Securement for what? You ain't even got no load on here." :)

You'd think I would know better. I ruined a game of Monopoly 12 years ago by reading the rules out loud and to this day my wife still won't play that game with me!
