The only thing that would make sense, is if the primary witness was unwilling to testify. They had previous alleged victims, which even the article said the crimes happened to long ago. So if this was the only victim to which the statute of limitations applied, and she refused or would rather not testify, or her testimony would be in question it might make some semblance of sense that the DA did this deal.

On the other hand I know what your getting at, and agree that the media likely played it up. As they always do on some level, all the way up to creating a story.

And on and on and on.

Just reminds me of the scene from tombstone where the cowboys are dressed up in nice suits and make up, and it's innocent folk being murdered by law.

Do you know how the media turned the general public against truckers?

They had a reporter go to a truckstop and talk to a guy standing in the parking lot. The guy said was a driver. on camera, the guy did his dope. America was appalled. The drivers that knew that particular truck stop were even more appalled. That truckstop had been closed for years. They staged the whole thing. Oh yeah, it worked.

Now, I'm not saying that there wasn't a drug problem, I'm saying that they should never stage, insinuate, fabricate, tell half truths, and mislead.

That news article is full of it. I'm not saying that guy was innocent. I'm saying the media's spin is designed to lead the audience to feeding this guy to the hogs. For the Mann Act?
    That is simply astonishing.

Dateline NBC if my research is correct. I actually did not know precisely how it started. I just knew it as a persistent stereotype. I grew up around it, and later ended up in it. All I remembered were all the friendly drivers I had met thanks to my grandfather.

The article is definatly sensationalism at a minimum (headline alone "vampire truck driver.") What did or didn't happen will only be known by those involved. Though if the DOT officer finding her with bruises is true, could be assault as well (If he did those.)

Either way, unless the allegations are cleared he's going to want to volunteer for solitary.

I'll admit I was quick on grabbing the torches. I've known someone that had similar abuse done to them all be it, not so bizarre. My logic's not always clear with things like this.

I thank you for reminding this is simply a story, one version of events, easy for me to separate when other subjects are involved.

Hey 6es, thanks for the responses. I do agree about the media. Hell, after twenty plus years a LEO and time as a volunteer fireman, and about 15 years as a medic, I have seen an awful lot of BS from the media. Including one story that outright lied about a department I was with. Of course, the lie was on page one, the retraction, (after legal action being threatened,) was actually one small paragraph, buried, appropriately enough, on the obituary page...
I've got a lot of respect for both you and @Chinatown, which is why I was wondering where you guys are coming from here.

Hey Don, before I started driving, i did a stint on the local PD. What I saw and what they said on the evening news was like two completely different events.

Here's an example: Floyd "Flop" Fuller. If you do a search on him, the media puts him favorable light. But if I recall correctly he had 5 DUI convictions driving city property. FIVE!!!!! How would you feel, being a lawman under a microscope, and you pull this fellow over, stupid drunk, in a city vehicle? And he has priors. If it had been me in the car, they would have crucified me and burned me in the car. But he got 5, and never lost his driving privileges.

Now if he were a truck driver...blew an .08, but the media would have spun a tale about how many people hewas forced off-road, how he's well known for being drunk dangerous and belligerent...even ran a school bus of the road and made it crash into a river. Public enemy number one.

Transporting women for prostitution is a Federal crime, I think it was more commonly called The Mann Act in days of old.

I wonder if the OP thinks he is psycho because he is a trucker, or if he is a trucker because he is psycho? And is there an implication that we are all psycho and could do these types of things? I'd think his criminal behavior and his profession are not linked or dependent on each other.

The FBI seems to think there are many active serial killer truckers and quite a few locked up already.

That's true, truckers and traveling salesman are good jobs for serial killers. Problem now with truckers is satellite & cell phone tracking and security cameras everywhere.

I watched "serial killer ~ Killer Truckers" in the first 10 minutes I had the heebie jeebies, thinking about all the trucks parked around me. Then the more of it I watched the more I came to the conclusion that they were bashing truck drivers. They said several things that made me raise an eyebrow, like "A trucker is just one notch above a prostitute in life" and there were others. Still made me wonder how many deviants are parked around me dumping bodies across the country lol
