Sorry if this thread has already been covered, but I just applied (let my haz expire years ago) so I thought I would add info.
-This only applies to Texas
1) Apply in person at DPS license office, prepare to wait an eternity to talk to someone. You must have your passport or a stamped birth certificate to apply!
2) Smile for your picture!
3) Pay 11$ to take the Hazmat test. It is 30 questions, multiple choice, must get 24 questions out of 30 correct to pass. You get 2 additional free retries within 90 days if needed, just can't take the test more than once per day.
4) When you pass they cut your license, print you off a paper license, and give you the info you need to setup for fingerprinting.
5) Fibgerprints are done through Identogo, I lucked out and had a location 2 miles from my house! Setup your appointment online, I was able to get an appt the next day.
6) When you arrive @ Identogo bring your temp paper license, and give them your dl#/ss#/dob. It literally takes less than 5 min to get your prints done. At this point you pay the background check fee of 73.75$, or 75.30$ if paying by debit/credit card.
7) Background check should be complete within a few weeks, new license with endorsement should arrive within 30 days. If it doesn't contact Identigo BEFORE dps.
So all in total cost in Texas is 86.30$

That's the process and costs I remember from my HazMat in a different state. I would add at my fingerprinting site, which may have been same company, you cannot use cash.

Standard fingerprint was $86 last time i did in utah. You can do one or the other first. I dont matter. You just dont get the hard copy till both is done. I get to renew next year. I just have to test as my finger prints arent due for 2 more years.the endorsement is $5. One free retest. Pay again for another test and one free. Can be done all day long. In utah

Process and costs sounds about the same in PA. I like the variety of locations for fingerprints. Mine was close by at a UPS store. I'll be renewing next year.
-
Sounds about right. I did the finnerprints at the dps place. Heck all they had to do was call up the cop shop, they got plenty of em lol

Isn't getting hazmat fun. That's the same drill I went thru here in Iowa.ExOTR Thanks this.

In Missouri the cost is the same. I knew my license would expire in October as well as my TWIC card. I went to the TSA office in Lee's Summit and did my fingerprint work there. They sent the stuff off and it took 3 weeks to get it back. The day I got it back, the license office had sent me a notice that it was time to do the stuff that I already had done. Went to the office in Liberty and showed them my new medical as well. They gave me a temporary license and I had to wait for the new one. New one arrived today.
Have you ever noticed how the cameras seem to add about 30 plus years to you? -
I took my fingerprint over a week ago for my hazmat. But I receive my licence with no hazmat on it. I haven't receive anything about my decision... Do that mean I got denied because I receive my licence without the hazmat endorsement???
-
The state will know or can find out before we do. 1 week isn't enough time. Although some people did get letter. The average time is 3 to 4 weeks.
Wait 2 more weeks then go back. See what they say.TruckerPat Thanks this. -
They send you a new license without the Hazmat endorsement but the new picture, after they complete the background check they send you a letter saying you are approved for Hazmat, and another license will arrive a week after the letter that shows Hazmat and the Hazmat expiration date.
Nothing like the waste of taxpayer money lol.TruckerPat Thanks this.
