Up here it was to go skiing. In fact, my mother used to drop me off at the edge of town on her way to work so I could catch a ride.
I have picked up a few hitchhikers over the years... haven't found any crazier than me.
Truckers always pick up hitch hikers in the movies, do you?

All passengers have to be insured.
You get pulled over have a passenger, besides the usual license insurance and registration. He will ask for proof of insurance for your passenger.
As a company driver I had to have proof of insurance for any passengers , and when I was pulled over for a inspection with my girl.
"Who is this I need her license and proof of insurance."
Every passenger in your vehicle .Mtn Gal Thanks this. -
I picked up a hitchhiker that looked like Daisy Duke.

No the law is every passenger must have insurance and have proof of insurance for said passenger in the vehicle... commercial vehicle.
It's a law. Look it up...
You get pulled over have passenger they will ask for passengers ID and proof of insurance for that person. Your normal trucking insurance won't work.
What kind of creep do you think I am?
Was only a joke... wow
Guess bad thing about text sometimes , can be misinterpreted.
So what you see in the movies is not real life and legal.
Have been pulled over twice with my girl and both times she was ID and we had to show the proof she was insured as a passenger.
For simple truck inspections.
First question is "she a co driver?"
Nope

You don't need insurance for the passenger. Just a later from the company that you work for saying that they are not to be held responsible for this person . This is all you need if you get pulled over. I personally did it many times. Now about the hitchhikers and the homeless people (as they refer to them self) 95% of them don't deserve ####.Some time ago on a truck stop guy was asking me for spare change for food. I told him that I'm on my way to get lunch and he can feel free to come with me and I'll buy him a sandwich and soda for example. He started yelling in my face : Don't want the ###.. soda , I wanna drink beerrrrr .
