I guess this is a good job for anyone who has a reason not to stay in one place any longer than necessary. My reason is local jobs are boring. To me anyways.
As far as the prostitute line....I guess that isn't far off. Anyone who does work they'd rather not do, for money, could be called a prostitute. I once called a lumper a prostitute when he was complaining about how big a tight wad I was while negotiating the rate. He told me he had to give a portion of his money to "the service". I said for what? They didn't advertise, negotiate, provide you insurance or anything. He said he had to "pay to be allowed to work these docks". I figured that meant the service was his pimp. -
The simple definition of prostitute is:
to use (something valuable, such as talent) in a way that is not appropriate or respectable and especially to earn money
Being a lumper does not fall into this group.
If it does, so does being a trucker.
So, what?!!!
Are we all prostitutes because we use our company especially to earn money?
Because being a lumper is neither 'not appropriate or respectable'. They are simply doing the job they were hired for.
Would it be too far to suggest that both the pimp and prostitute is simply the customer that does not want to foot the bill to unload their own freight? -
Let me be clear this is a very small minority of drivers, going to be honest.
This happens all time in the real world that are not truck drivers.
Do a google search and you will find happens more outside of trucking.
At anytime your truck can be searched by an officer. Surprised he made it as long as he did.
Shipper/ receiver can search your truck as well.
Failed system to let this freak walk so easy. Plea deal? Not if I were the prosecution, there is no deal to be had. -
Perhaps at some government installation a shipper or receiver can search your truck.
Now I've been retired for a lot of years, but I will tell you that any private company security guard that wanted to search my truck would be invited to go to the nearest beach and pound sand you know where.
Oh, you won't let me through your gate without a search? Well I'd have two answers for that. The first would be for on the way in, and would be, no problem, ship it with someone else. If I had a load for them, I'd get the name of the guard that refused the load.
Now, if the say I can't leave without being searched, my response would be watch me!
Maybe it has changed now with all the terrorism crap going on, but I'm not gonna let some wannabe tell me he's gonna search my vehicle.
Don't confuse a security guards legitimate request to open the trailer door, with doing a search. Two different animals entirely.Mtn Gal Thanks this. -
I get searched at 1 particular mine site I go to every time. Funny thing is they look under the hood and on the floor of the cab but never anywhere else. I don't own the truck so I could care less. I will refuse to let them look in my lunch box. Last thing I want is someone pawing through my food. Yuk.

Years ago if you looked up "tattoo" in the dictionary, part of the definition was "Worn by sailors and other low class people." Ignorant people believe sterotypes, such as "A trucker is just one notch above a prostitute in life."
-
Just ask all the low class doctors who have tattoos and ride Harleys on what little time off they have. Low class, huh. Sheesh.
OBTW, FWIW, IMNHO, both truckers and prostitutes are miles above politicians and lawyers when it comes to classification.
young trucker and TripleSix Thank this. -
About every place I go to ship or rceive.
Signs say trucks can be searched at anytime.
I never thought about it much, search away. Some places have valuables guess I assumed part of the job.
I have nothing to hide, cept my dirty laundry..... bad part about being OTR..
34 hr restart are laundry days. -
As I posted, I've been retired a long time. But I just can's see myself letting some jackwagon wannabe rent-a-cop crawl into my sleeper. Not that I had anything to hide either. I believe it is called standing on principles.
TripleSix and DDlighttruck Thank this.
