Hello!
I have posted here before, it was quite a few months ago. I live in Hickory NC, and I have finally gotten to the point where I will be taking my class to get my CDL. The orientation for the class is the 19th of July, and the class will begin on August 14th and run 9 weeks, Mon-Fri 8am-5pm.
The one thing I keep coming back to is that I have a ticket on my record. No other criminal history, some other speeding tickets from a long time ago, they are all at least 6+ years old. The ticket I am worried about was from last August and as the title states, I was doing 53 in a 35 MPH zone. I am super worried that I will not be able to find a job when I graduate.
Am I better off just not taking the class until the ticket is off my record? I am hoping I can get hired on with a company and then work for them for a couple of years until the ticket falls off and then move into better opportunities. My goal is to be in the Food Service industry, working for IFH (Performance Food Group) as they are right near where I live. But I am assuming they won't touch me with this ticket. So I am assuming OTR is what I will be forced into doing if I can find employment.
I did make a similar post about this topic 7 months ago, but would just enjoy getting some more advice. (Sorry for the double post!)
Speeding Ticket 53 in a 35, ouch.

Start talking to recruiters and see what they say.
Dave_in_AZ, Puppage and Windir Thank this. -
You have a reckless charge.Anything over 15 is a reckless. The worst speeding ticket there is in this industry and very unforgiving.Even if first offence companies wait 3 to 5 yrs before the driver is eligible to drive for that company.I would suggest calling around first before going to school.
-
Thanks a lot, I will start doing that immediately.

I guess I should have just talked to recruiters first. Sorry to waste your time everyone..lol. The two places I have called so far (Prime, and Watkins & Shepard) have told me that because it will be over a year since the ticket when I graduate it would not be a problem. But if I am still worried about it that I can submit an application and give me a letter of intent to hire once I have a set graduation date.

did you think that from last August to now, it would have fallen off?
why didn't you do something way back then?
i cannot see this ticket being reduced, but will most certainly stick with you till it falls off, in whatever length of time it falls in your state, 2 years, 3 years, 5 years, etc.
from you several months ago, in January 2016,no one will touch you but a skank company
questions really arise, are, did you really learn a lesson? have you been driving SLOWER?
best wait till this big one falls off, no need to come back in 6/7 more months for any more advice, on what you have already been told, what about a dozen times now?
what i don't get, (actually i do), is why doesn't the school tell you to forgedaboudit
reason why? they want that tuition money, they could care less whether you get a job or not. -
Instead of recruiters I would ask the safety dept. Many times recruiter will prehire the applicant then once the applicant is in orientation gets sent home because of something found during the background check that the recruiter failed to see.Since you have a reckless ticket I would ask the safety dept. You can also go to your local DMV and get a copy of your MVR for like $5.00,cost more if you use debit so make sure to bring cash.Mike2633, G13Tomcat, roshea and 1 other person Thank this.

geesh....$17.50 here! and that IS cash!G13Tomcat Thanks this.

That's great, man.

Wow!!!!!!! I got a copy of my MVR two weeks ago for a possible job. They wanted a copy when I filled out an application. But after they told me in detail what the job was I didn't take it.David_Simpson Thanks this.
