    This is my first post.

I am changing careers for the third time in my life. Have a CDL A with X, and will be tied to a transport company for a year, due to the CDL school. When I complete my first year, will the cost of insurance be much more than if I was to drive as a company driver for a second year? My goal is to purchase a tractor (no fleece purchase), then contract on to a decent carrier.

    Thanks for your time,

If you 'lease' on with a carrier they pay the insurance. All you pay is the physical damage. Make sure you are gonna like this gig before you get into debt with some truck note. Buy and old cheap truck and test the waters first.

The transport industry is like no other and life as an OTR driver is not a life many adjust to easily.
Consider this like a marriage that as a company driver you can annul but once you purchase a tractor you're in it for better or worse.
Take your company driver time to see if this is a long term commitment you are ready for. There are some very strange members of the family with very odd and peculiar habits you will have to accept. The neighborhood of shippers, truck stops, DOT regulations also are part of this new family.
Sample the milk awhile before you consider buying the cow.
