Sure, buddy. You still a kid for this industry. I say go for it !

Stay with your plan, learn the business and execute the goal of your plan.

First things first though... Get that CDL and go step by step.

You going to a private cdl school or trucking company cdl school?
Jim Palmer Trucking has a good reputation for trucking company school.
    Either way, you will need:
    original birth certificate
original social security card - not laminated

Get all the endorsements, especially hazmat. Even refrigerated carriers haul hazmat.

I was in your shoes just 6 months ago. I'm 37 and went to school this February. Started my trucking job at the end of April, went with trainer for about 6 weeks and I've been solo now for about 3 weeks. I've come a long way already but still have much to learn. I absolutely love what I do...the best job I ever had. Good luck!

That's FANTASTIC to hear! If that's the case, you'll never work a day in your life. Many safe miles to you driver.

    I can relate.
I was an auto mechanic for 25 years, and got my CDL when I was 50.
Wish I had done it 30 years ago.
OTR is fun for the 1st year. after that, it kills your health.
    I lasted 2 years.
I drive milk tankers locally now.
I never want to drive anything else.
    No sliding tandems.
    No CAT scales.
    Few weigh stations.
    No truck stops.
    Home every day.

Pick a good company to start with, and forget about being an O/O, unless you team.
You will go broke otherwise, unless you want to run like hell.

Watkins Shepard is a GREAT startup company.
Spent my first 2 years with them.
One of the best companies I have ever worked for.
    Smaller is better.
Mega carriers are to be avoided IMO, and those Lease/Purchase deals are a scam.

    Good luck.

Didn't Schneider acquire Watkins Shepard recently? If so, I wonder how or if things have changed.

OP, are you looking for over the road experience or home every day?? Flat, tank, or van?
