Another question, ever found a body in a trash can, because if you do and it is in the RECYCLE bin, chances are a Hindu was the murderer.

I don't do trash....no offense, but it smells like rotting meat with hot tuna soup for dipping.

God bless the trash truckers. Someone has to do it. I'm just glad that "someone" isn't me. :)

I got started in trucking at a trash outfit. Great learning place. Less regs back then we got away with lots more but learned lots more that way. I still have items I salvaged from stores or businesses. Mack Trucks used to toss tanks, wheels just from a scratch. Didn't care about recycling back then. One driver got jabbed by a needle at a hospital, they put a red bag in the regular trash. At the end of the day we'd get a case of beer and polish it off with the manager standing at the gate of the yard before driving home. Sad to see what PC panty waists this industry has been forced to become. Lots of great stories from those old days.

so...20+ years to average 60k on day shift with weekends off and have commonplace benefits associated with full time employment?

    no thanks.

Remember around 2012, 90,000 from NYC were on the list to take the civil service test TO BE a garbage man?

I have heard and seen paystubs of the guys in Chicago grossing 125,000 a year. They said you will have no life with that pay though.

I was a rear load driver for 2 years for one of the majors, I'd still be in it today but the wife myself and our 1 child at the time moved and we could no longer afford to live on that paycheck. But I did enjoy slinging trash and I was most certainly in the best shape of my life then. Way better shape than when I was in the service.

Running from the cab to the trash to the hopper 400-800 times a day, kicks your ### into shape real quick.

Everyday we were beasts, 5 trucks 25 tons of trash per truck being pulled out of the city 5 days a week in the summer. From a city of 30,000+. The 10 of us were well known around the shop for being the lowest paid, hardest hitting trashmen from our location.

    Good f'n days man!
