Need help with cdl sponsored training

Where is your location?
Your state will pay for private cdl school through the WIA program. Google WIA Program (state).The reason we need to know your location is because it's hard to recommend any companies if we don't know the hiring area you live in. Put your location on your profile.

Also, Goodwill Industries will pay for cdl school if funding is available. There's a website about this if you can find it.

 

The license suspensions are a real problem, but not insurmountable.

Chinatown mentioned Millis. Definitely not a bad place to start. I am in school there now. I could be wrong about this, but I think they are looking more at major moving violations than anything else. Call 800-937-0880 and ask for Peggi. She's my recruiter. She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. She'll be very upfront with you. Never hurts to call and ask. This has been a great experience so far. I have a thread going here about my class experience so far and I update it every day, feel free to check it out! It is my understanding (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that smaller companies tend to be a little more lenient with license issues than larger companies. Plus, the pay is typically better than the mega carriers for starting pay. Another company you should check out is Roehl. They are pretty serious about their training, the equipment is good, and they pay you while you're in school. Both of these companies are small in comparison to places like Swift, Prime, Celadon, etc. I have nothing against the megas, but I wanted to be in a smaller company because I wanted more of a "family" atmosphere. Go to any truck stop and look for their little truckers mini magazine stand with all the truckers pamphlets. Those are your bottom-feeders. They'll hire anybody with a current license and most times even if you have a single blemish.

Everybody has to start somewhere and that's where most people start. Start with a bottom-feeder, get your 1st year in and then go with a better company.

AlsoAlso, as someone else mentioned...never let the company sponsor your training. Go to your local department of labor and apply for a grant. You'll have more options and won't be an endentured servant.

 

Not all company sponsored training is a bad choice. Again, look at the smaller companies. Grants, by the way, are drying up. If you choose to go to a non-sponsored school, that's a good choice, however....most of those schools guarantee job placement. They aren't being deceptive, but your "guarantee" is that you'll get picked up by a mega. Those are the only recruiters they'll bring in. Schools get kick-backs from megas. It's a very dirty poker game. If you go to a non-sponsered school, make sure you already have a company in mind that you will feel comfortable with. Otherwise your first year will be filled with misery and regret.
