Aftermarket condensor fan for Tri Pac APU

In case anyone is interested in saving a few bucks on a condensor fan, here's what I replaced mine with:

Part# 226112 from Advance Auto Parts. It was $68 versus the $257 that Thermo King wanted for the OEM.

It is the same diameter but the mounting holes didn't line up. I turned it a little bit, marked the holes with a paint marker and drilled new ones. I used U-nuts and 1/4-20 x 1" body bolts from Tractor Supply to attach it.

Stick a deep well socket over the drill bit to avoid punching a hole through your condensor.

Time will tell how long it will last. One thing is for sure though... it is WAY quieter than the SPAL fan it came with.

 

One other thing...

This fan comes set up as a pusher. The blade needs to be turned around and the polarity reversed on the wires so it pulls the air through.

 

it's hard to explain but that is exactly what needs to be done. It is in the instructions. The blades are cup shaped and need to be flipped. If the polarity was left the same the blade would be rotating the wrong way.

 

It's a little over two months later and the fan has been getting a workout down here in the hot south. Still going strong... knock on wood.

 

Just an update on that fan... almost continuous use in the south and it's still going strong.

 

August 2018 now and the fan is still working.

 

May 2019 and the fan still works. After this long of having it on there, the one thing I notice is that it probably could stand to have a few more CFM when it gets really hot out. I was going to shop around for something with some more oomph, but I got a new truck and that one is just parked now.
