Lots of pros and cons to Californey style hook ups. Been there. Done it. Will keep doing it.

One of the company trailers had the landing gear folded under it by a shunt flying in reverse and dropping trailer while he was still moving .. The weight of a 55'000 lb load buckled the reefer floor from the shock .. It was a older trailer worth 25 k or so they cut a check the same day offering 50 k which the company accepted happily as they were about to retire trailer in another year or so

Well I just got my check today for the full amount of the repair $1,061 plus a couple of hundred extra for me shuttling the trailer to the repair shop. I had pressed for more on the P&D fee but I made the mistake of not getting that in an actual estimate/invoice. In other words the next time this happens the shop doing the repairs will be doing a P&D from my hometown to Nashville. That's a 6 hour job coming to get it and then bringing it back and their rate is $71 an hour for that.
So that's what I charged, a normal market rate doing the P&D myself, but these people wanted to argue because it wasn't part of the actual repair invoice. I didn't want to fight it any more so decided to take their offer and run. I could have hit them up for trailer rental and all that but I guess I'm just too easy. I was on vacation while it was down in the shop a week anyways. So this was an eye opener and learning experience. The company I'm leased to did all of the legwork and a really good job of it too. The people who damaged it wouldn;t even talk to me when I initially inquired about it. They thought I was just a one truck guy that would go away. -

Thankfully it's on the front and you don't have a mismatched Color on the side forever
