So I work for a small company out of Chicago with about 30+ trucks over the road drivers occupying those trucks. I have been with this place since September 2015, never refused a load, only thing I have complained about was home time directly to the boss. Boss promised in the ad he placed that I responded to when I got hired that he would get me home every other weeked. I also verified that with him during our 1 hour orientation. Things started out the first two months he got me home Friday afternoon or evening then dispatch me out Monday morning. Keep in mind I live right outside Atlanta, GA. Then winter rolled around I started staying out three weeks and asked to be home three days which the boss seemed to enjoy because we do alot of Chicago to Oregon or Washington runs in the winter so it meant more money for both of us. Well January came he started sending me on runs from Chicago to Miami leaving Friday night on my home weekends and say "go home for the weekend and deliver Monday 7-8am" well that means a few hours at home. So I put my foot down and explained I do my job and never ##### I need my home time, then he apologized and started doing good for a while. Lately he started on Wednesday of my home week sending me from SC to Fargo, ND and saying I can go home the weekend after we gets me a load from ND home and we all know that isn't possible. Or come Thursda y evening after driving I'll day I'll be in San Antonio, TX then dead head me to Laredo, TX then to Georgia. But mostly I am in Chicago and he will tell me there isn't any loads to Georgia leaving Thursday or Friday which I find extremely and highly unlikely. Here we are again today leaving Greensboro, NC to Tupelo, MS to Carol Stream, IL. I always give the boss a heads up that I need home on my weekends a week ahead of time and today's excuse was "what is the latest you need home" well thanks for asking now that I got your load from Greensboro on my truck. Also, another thing he does is ask me when is the latest I need to be home and he will ask that a day or two before hand. How do you all deal with companies who pull this ####? I don't think I am being unreasonable here, this weekend I even told him I only need Saturday off and can, if I have a load on the truck leave back out Sunday morning. I think I am doing my part but obviously he is taking advantage of the situation. Any advice since being nice isn't working?

You are going to be cut loose if you don't stop yapping about home time.

I hate to say it, just typing this truth hurts me more than it does you. Here is my advice. SHUT UP about going home to that poor bossman... he's stressed enough and like a petulant child you will be cut loose to remove additional aggravation about your precious home time.

Now we ALL love home time. But we aint gonna be home when that frieght has to go somewhere. Find peace and man up you WILL get home sometime as a reward for shutting up and doing your hauls. Try it. And see.

I cannot think of anything else. If I was a company bossman constantly pestered by you out of several hundred whom I don't hear from much at all for weeks or months at a time... you are gone. Or a situation will be set up to cause you to quit on your own eliminating the constant yapping about home.

Now I did not write this to make you mad or hurt your feelings. I write this because Trucking keeps our Nation going and without you and your load delivered because you love home too much what are we gonna do?

The above poster clearly don't have a family he cares about, I run 3500 miles a week, don't act like I am some wimp, I run as hard as the best of us. I would love for a keyboard warrior like you to tell me to just stay out and shut up, that'd make this decision far more easier. When a man says he is going to do something he needs to do it. Clearly you must be one sad and lonely individual, just cause the industry drives the nation doesn't mean we need to be door mats, we have lives too!

I have family across the USA. I care very much about them. Home time to me is very important. However.....

With my story growing up Family did nothing for me because I was a special as in handicapped and unable to associate with them snobs in the larger part of family. Leaving only a few blood siblings and thier children to attend to while they are growing up. I would stop out of route to visit them a day or three. Until Dispatch finds out that I have family in Indianpolis or Baltimore or wherever. Guess what. Dispatch no longer sends me there to these specific cities with known family because that truck will stop....

No one gets to write and say what I do or do not care for in terms of family, You shove it.

When you marry a wife like I do and she cries asking when you will come home again? You say I dont know. She was a Marine Sgt and knows #### well duty calls on the big road. You can then tell me about your wife wanting you home too sir.

When I got my Class A in the late 80's as a deaf trucker, about 450 members of my family spread east coast up and down broke relations from me. They told me to my face Ill be ###### if you are on the road Im on too.

    #### them too.

This man was hired with a promise of home every week. Why should he be okay with broken promises? Should he also take a reduced rate because the cheap freight has to move too?

Thanks. I believe this is a very common complaint in the industry, and we know you give em an inch they take a mile. One day I am not home on Friday night and over time I am not home until Tuesday or Wednesday. Again, I run hard for the man when everyone else is refusing loads I take whatever he gives me no matter how crappy of a run and I have only complained bout the promised home time three times since September 2015. I just feel I may be being too nice about it. I cannot side with the first commenter stating we should just put up we do have a crazy job but it is like most jobs should be on the homeland where we have an idea of home time, this isn't a deployment over seas, we have a better idea of home time or should. I understand stuff happens and it cannot always workout but when it is every single time I m scheduled to come home, it gets ridiculous. Thanks for understanding

Regardless of how OTR life is, a promise is a promise. I run for over a month at a time but my company didn't promise me home every week and I am okay with that. I think you always have to make them uphold their promises.

Maybe it's time to find a different job if the boss can't keep his end of the deal. Lots of other places to work for.

If the company can't or won't live up to it's ended of the bargain on a regular basis there's two options. Accept it or move on.

You have a choice to make. Unless you have a bad driving record the choice would seem obvious.
