Trucking definitely is not a perfect world where everything runs like clockwork. Things like loading/offloading delays, load cancellations, weather and such sometimes make it impossible to run a perfect schedule. I sure wouldn't want the load planners job.
Used to work for a small company that actually cared for the drivers. If something happened happened that they couldn't bring you back for scheduled home time, the owner would either deadhead you to a either a load that would get you there or bounce all the way to the house.
Didn't make much business sense but drivers were happy.bzinger and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Seriously ? ? ? Im guessing that you my friend have never had an appointment with a medical specialist .

Even on the age of technology we as drivers need to follow up on our vacation/home time requests. Just filing out the macro or the form and leaving it at that doesn't cut it. Computers and people make mistakes and forget things. I am lucky enough to have a DM who only handles 4 drivers and if I want a day off I fill out the form. Two weeks before I remind him. The week before I remind him. I take the initiative to the point that I am a pest about it, but I get home when I need to.
Friday, Dave_in_AZ and Lonesome Thank this. -
Usually only given a few days before hometime.

When I drove for SRT like 7 or 8 years ago, I think they would pay $100 day evert day past the day they were supposed to get you home.
JB Hunt was never a problem.
CRE was a problem.
CRST said they basically did away with hometime. -
I pity you mega carriers guys.Drove for few East European companies and only one of them tried to keep me on the road against my will but they quickly learned that this (my) truck simply won't move in direction other than Chicago. All it takes is to be assertive. At my current job(East European too) I am home whenever I want/need to be and being asked when I would like to leave again.
Florida Playboy, Dave_in_AZ and bzinger Thank this. -
Makes perfect sense. Owner that understands that driver's are his life, and not robots.6daysontheroad Thanks this.

bzinger Thanks this.
