my mechanic told me "if you get a Mercedes engine or a maxxforce be ready to use it as toilet paper use it get your money back and throw it away"... evans truck service companies and international are teaming up offering a flease deal to the guys in the port for those.

It isn't just this forum, otherwise you couldn't buy 3 year old trucks with less than 300k miles for $20k.

I watched the Ritchie brothers auction online most max force trucks sold for 16,500 or less. An 09 international with isx and 700k+ miles sold for 14k.

Its the emission junk not the engine. I had a 2013 that was set at 475hp with a standard10 speed eaton and it ran like a bat out of hell but the egr coolers overheat and the egr valves stick plus the fact that the regen crap is completely unreliable. If there were egr/dpf delete kits for them I would run it

No doubt,International(and Navistar as a whole)have taken a bloodbath on the truck market because of the horrendous results of the "MaxxFarce" engines. They're also facing a lawsuit from the EPA after the stunt they tried to pull by selling trucks with previous model year engine blocks. Numerous EGR valve and DPF issues are making companies drop those trucks like a bad habit and the used truck market is flooded with them. If you have to get an International, get one with a Cummins engine for better reliability

I've been amazed at auction prices -- its clear no one is buying much equipment these days.

Overcapacity(too many trucks on the market),plus the freight rates have been dropping, partly due to mega carriers bidding to move the freight on the cheap.

It's the drop in price from new that kills me. 130k+ for a new tractor or a three year old one for 16.5k and 300 k miles with a crap engine.

They are super cheap these days. I heard UPS returned all of their prostars due to issues.
