How far up the North east do you guys go?

 

Just curious, I have tanker, but not hazmat, but why do I need tanker? They haul liquid containers?

 

Pretty much stops at New Jersey...

 

We rarely haul totes and technically they require tanker. We also don't do that much hazmat, however, dispatch prefers to have all drivers with the endorsements so they have maximum flexibility.

If you don't have the endorsements it can cost you $0.01 per mile and some missed runs.

 

So they'll charge me $.01 a mile for not having it but pay me $.05 a mile if I do have it? Never heard that one before. LOL .. What's the home time usually for drivers living in Pa/NJ area?

 

We don't have a "hometime" policy per say, we prefer you stay out 3 weeks and then you take off as much time (within reason) as you can afford.

Recruiting can take you through the pay for performance model, basically every 4 months your performance is evaluated and your pay rate is set, so you can go up and down depending on your ave monthly milage and fuel economy and safety.

In a year I went from a new CDL hire at $0.36 per mile to maxed out at $0.50 per mile, though I stay out for 6 plus weeks at a time and average around 12,000 miles per month.

 

Sorry, but 36 a mile is low from what I've been making, even 3 years ago I was making 48 pulling van and 55 pulling flatbed a mile first day I was hired and I was also home on weekends and still averaged about 2800-3000 a week. So I won't stay out that long for that little, I'd rather be home spoiling my grandkids on the weekends and still get the same pay than having to take my reset at a truck stop, but that's just me

 

Yeah it's a real OTR company so that means weeks out Hometime is great and the $.36 per mile was for brand-new CDL graduates. Good luck I hope you find something that works for you

 

What is the avg load miles?Spend much time at the docks, or hunts Point?

 

I have picked up once from the docks and for me at least ave miles are approx 1,100 per run. This week is a short week and I will do right at 2,600 miles, typically I have been getting around 2,800 to 3,100 but keep in mind I have been here for a year and really know our lanes and system.

Lots of experienced drivers come here and some are frustrated that they don't get big miles instantly, it takes time to learn the dispatchers and for them to learn you - when you do though it rocks.
