Anyone heard of using a "marine chip" on a 6NZ? I just bought a 02 international 9900i 6NZ w/18sp 455 rears. Pulls real strong... Prior owner is not truck savvy and said the guy he bought the truck from said it had a marine chip?
-
No such thing as a "marine chip" persay.
But could of had a diffrent file flashed into the ecm.
The term chip goes back to the 90s and powerstroke 7.3s and such. No such port on a cat ecm to plug in a "chip".
Clearly trucks prior owner is not truck savvy like you say.
But did make me laugh! Lol
Sounds like classic trucker CB jiberish to me. -
Yep, you know how it is when someone wants to sell something, they pull out all the stops.
I figured it would be a ECM flash.
How would I go about reading the ECM to possibly find out if it is altered? -
He is probably referring to the resistor to fool the ECM that the fuel is cold. Been awhile, I even forgot between what wires it hooks up to.
-
You will need a Cat E.T. to hook it up and look at the flash file that's currently in it. Along with the fls/fts numbers and injector codes. But since it's running so well like you mentioned, why mess with it.
-
Don't be fooled by fancy talk about aftermarket tuners or companies that aren't cat certified to tune your truck... I need a few more details do you have a 435 HP or is it already turned up to a 550 HP
-
If you already have it turned up to 550 horse if you want it done right you'll need a polished and ported ceramic coated exhaust manifold and a larger Borg Warner Turbo this will put it at 700 horse with a decent tune now if you use that power you will lose mileage but if driven right you can pick up one to one and a half miles to the gallon as far as I know Harold at Kustom truck has the best exhaust manifold if you look at PTI are Pittsburghs in just a short time their coating Burns off
-
Cat won't turn it up past 550 horse no matter what if you have a 435 horse you need to find out what torque transmission you have
-
What he was talking about was "Marine" related ,but it was the camshaft, probably 800 or 1000 horsepower. Can't discuss that here anymore.
