Are you planning to take this truck to the shop for overhaul, or you going to drive until the rod show up thru engine block ?

Bogi if that question is for me I plan on driving it for another 100000 miles or so. still has good power and for a engine with just over a million miles and only using half gallon between services i dont think i should worry about a rod coming through the block. i do stay ontop of the overhead though. every four months i get this done just to be sure.

If there is no indication of excessive wear and the oil samples still look good, why would there be any real need to feel that one might throw a rod? Usually, that happens from excessive abuse and not watching things properly. Oil samples would show excessive tin, copper, lead, etc if bearing wear was becoming an issue. Not always fool proof, but a good indicator. Just to open the bottom end up because one can and "that is the way we always did it before" doesn't always justify it. I have seen several engines where the lower end was checked at 800,000 to a million and the bearings showed little wear. But if it makes one feel good, I guess go ahead and do it.

Many OEM's now have B50 life spans on engines that exceed well beyond 1 million miles. And that is typical fleet use. A owner who is diligent about how they maintain their engine, and operating it properly, could exceed the B50 design specs by a considerable amount.
