Edit the ECM of the truck? Unlikely that will happen. Even if it were possible (I doubt it) companies will have password protection. So if you have an ELD it will be no different than if your company gave you a 62 mph truck. You will drive a maximum speed of 62 mph with no hope of ever getting it turned up faster and you will be logging in compliance with what that ECM is putting out too.
-
I'm sure that's going to require an add-on of some outlaw software.

Where there's a will there's a way.passingthru69 and alghazi Thank this. -
In Europe they just stick super strong magnets to the speed sensor

Like all those Swift trucks out here that are flying down the road running 75+ when they are supposed to be set at 62 mph? Yeah... a password will prevent 99.9% of anyone out there that has the will. And like I said, it's more than likely not even possible to edit what info an ECM is putting out.
What you might have is a bunch of dummies driving around slower than 5 mph because their company has it set up to where drivers can "cheat" if they do that. It doesn't change what the ECM is putting out though. -
People are unlocking and starting up expensive brand new cars and stealing them with nothing more than a laptop. Maybe whatever is to come hasn't even been developed yet because there is not a market for it, ie $$$ -
We're not talking about stealing cars. We're talking about editing an ECM.
-
It's going to happen.
Do you really think that "outlaw" software won't be developed that will allow an O/O to hack his own truck to manipulate the ELD? -
I'm not governed. My elog does not affect my allowed speed. Not sure who started the lie that you can only log a certain speed, but it is a lie.
