So true. I have been in IT for a little over 20 years now and am in the process of making a change over to trucking. Call it a midlife crisis or whatever, but I have been really taking a look at my life and what I have accomplished and what I want to accomplish and sitting behind a desk making someone else rich is not accomplishing my goals. So, I am gathering as much info as I can and am planning on starting CDL school in the spring of 2017. I make pretty good money and I do like writing code and creating apps that a lot of people use, but I am getting sick of the daily commute, the same old water cooler chats, and the fact that my bosses are multi-millionaires and I'm not. Now don't get me wrong. I have no expectations that I will be a multi-millionaire in trucking. But at least I will have control over my own destiny especially after a year or so when I get my own truck. Purchased, not leased, and under my own authority. Again, that won't be until I have a year or so as a company driver since I do not have the capital or the connections that the OP has. Anyway before I get off on a tangent, Some people are perfectly happy retiring from the corporate world. More power to them. I have had enough of the desk jockey life and want to blaze my own trails. See you guys on the road, and OP - best of luck.

Couldn't agree with that more! Left trucking full time and I'm back in college and just started a very small day trading account to try and learn more about the market. Make your money work for you! Don't just let it sit in an account somewhere! I do recommend getting an investor to help you make long term investments for you like I have!

It is a touch overvalued. I agree.

An alternative will be 5 boxes of Silver in 500 per box.

The spread of silver to gold ratio stands at about 76 to one where historically/and naturally it needs to be less than 20 silver to one gold.

Leaving the Bretton Woods system back in 1971 really decoupled the Gold System allowing Congress to finally borrow a boat load of money and run a deficit for the first time. Fast foward to today, no one dares to corral everyone back to where every paper US Dollar needs to be backing of Gold in Fort Knox and other places around the USA. That will instantly increase the value of Gold Ounce Eagles from 1300 something today to roughly around 14000 tomorrow. which will cause problems across the market for those who are in debt in the Metals sector., And possibly cause our President to introduce again the 1933 executive orders that was executed against gold coinage of the time.

If the poo ever hits the fan the over valuation of gold will plummet.

Don't even get me going on silver, my dad bought a 100 grand of it a couple years ago " when it was never a better time to buy silver" .

It is another over hyped metal.

Switzerland has one of the soundest economies in the world.their currency has to be constantly artificially devalued In order for them to remain as a competitive economy surrounded by the EU.

Not saying you are going to make a ton of money on Swiss Francs, but the value will be there and it will be readily accessible when it is needed.
The Swiss banking system is 2nd to none as far as accountability, far from our Crooked system.

I spent the last 15 years working for a Very very wealthy Swiss couple and I slept at a Holiday Inn last night.

While I'm a big fan of motorcycling anywhere in the world, I'm partial to the good ol' USA, and am currently staying with friends in the Catskill's, and I tell you what, that is some of the nicest biking I've ever done.

I live in the mountains of western NC. I got off the road 4.5 years ago to take care of my elderly parents. I had thought about buying a motorcycle for years .I had owned a 400 cc Honda motorcycle when I was a teenager. Two years ago I bought a 2010 Honda Stateline with 97 miles on it for $8500. It's a 1300 v-twin cruiser. I'm 6'2" and I had a hard time finding a bike that had enough leg room etc. This bike feels just right in that regard. Comfortable and handlebars and pegs and controls feel just right for me.
Riding a motorcycle has really made me appreciate where I live. In no time I can be on curvy country roads in the mountains with almost no traffic. My road and the back roads connected to it are all curvy.
So, this is a great area to own a motorcycle. Plus I'm about a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Also, I bought this bike because I fit on it and felt it was a decent price. I've been
pleasantly surprised that it can actually lean fairly deep into curves and has decent power. I didn't want a v-twin, but now I like 'em. It's not a sportbike, but performs well for the type of bike it is.

Dad owned a big strip mall that we built and I managed.

I wrote a lot of leases to people that just inherited money or just retired and cashed in their life savings to start a business.

I think a pile of cash in the hands of a person who has never been in business for himself and now wanting to start one is a dangerous combination .

Witnessed many people losing their shirts within a year or 2.

Ex father inlaw inherited 250. Bought a oil change place . Lost it all after a year.

Many non business people do not realize there is a very fine line between making a little bit of money and losing your shirt.

And in the beginning when they are losing money , they tend to just throw more money at it instead of thinking their loss out and fixing it.

Problem with a pile of cash in the wrong hands is they think it's easy to come by and get real laxed about their business practices.

I have been in many businesses in my lifetime. Some successful , some too much work to make it worth the time and others just bad ideas.

I came on this website 3 years ago looking for info on maybe starting a small trucking company . This after my original plan of going back to captaining tugs in the Gulf went to hell after oil crashed.

Problem with trucking now is 2 fold. An over abundance of trucking companies and O/O leftover from the oilfields combined with imports down over 20 percent.

I had settled with the idea of just doing my year than buying a old FL and trying to get on withLand star doing a one man show.

My attraction being I want to take a lot of time off in between working.

But with the current state of the industry I don't think it is a wise decision , still doable but not real wise.

Especially when I read about guys on here who were operating on a cautious and well thought out plan, and still throwing in the towel.

It's not going to get any better. Oil will not come back. There is piles of it sitting all over the world in ships because there is such a oversupply these days.

Our next president will be wearing a dress and as shaky as the propped up economy is right now it's nothing compared what it will be in another 5 years.

If I had that kind of wealth thrown in my lap right now . I would bank 115 in Swiss Francs , than take 10 and maybe take a month or 2 off and enjoy some low budget travel.

You can burn through that kind of money in no time, been there done that.
