    Hi, I have a few questions for current drivers at Superior Carriers. Do you need to have a passport to get hired and if not are you required to obtain one? Also, are there any pre employment tests to take, like a physical ability test or is it only a DOT Physical? What type of training would be involved with an experienced driver with limited tanker experience? Are the trucks auto or manual transmissions? I probably have more questions but I'll start there, Thank You for any help

    I had a guy from Superior back in next to me yesterday when I was unloading. He'd been a coal miner for 30 years and it was his first driving job. He said he really enjoyed it. I believe his Mack was an auto.

    Those newer Macks are 12 speed autos. Drivers seem to like them except for the storage space. I see people mounting pick up truck storage boxes on the catwalk. If they give me one I plan to ask the shop to take out the passenger seat for a little more room.

    Thanks wsyrob, you have been with them for a while, I believe, do you know anything about the Greer SC terminal? Anything about runs they do, hometime, and what is the training for an experienced driver with limited tank experience Thanks for any help

    What do you mean by limited tank experience?

    Regardless, training is as long as you need it to be. If you and the trainer are comfortable after the minimum time, you're good to go. If you and/or the trainer at the terminal feel you need longer, then so be it. It's not a race to see how fast you can get thrown in a truck.

    Training generally consists of pumping and airing on the yard and then picking up and delivering a mix of local and system loads. You might never truly get out in the system as a trainee though.

    Hometime varies terminal to terminal, but 7-10 days out is a good average. Best way to get that answer would be to call the Greer terminal and talk to someone. Greer seems like they have a pretty good mix of stuff, I've gone to Manitoba, New York, Illinois, and Texas amongst others out of there.

    The only complaint I have heard about the Greer terminal is from drivers who want to stay out to make maximum money. Terminals can ask that their drivers be routed home in order to cover that terminals freight as opposed to letting them bounce around the system for weeks at a time where they can make the most money. Home time is probably pretty good out of there. I would ask them what the highest, lowest and average drivers made out of that terminal realizing that home time is better than some.

    At High Point our highest paid company driver last year was at 68K with the average around 60K. That's out of 36 drivers and may include the Wilmington guys as well. TM told me this last week. Local and regional guys will skew that average downward so OTR may come in a little higher. Every terminal is different though. Some only have 1 customer.

    From their website you need one, however I'd recommend you calling a recruiter there as I just did. The woman I just spoke with was awesome in explaining everything. I suppose it would come down to if you want local, regional or OTR.
    Just call it's quite painless as I just found out!
