Thank you all for the great advice!
Theres so much about the industry that is the opposite of what you'd think from the outside.
For instance, I always figured the long haul type jobs were the ones where you were worn out, trying to stay awake and drive. It seems most people are saying tanker is the way to go, easier and more pay. I like the sound of that, and I've known for a long time that there were some great jobs driving chemical weapons and other seriously hazardous stuff to the destruction sites, but I also wonder why people choose the other jobs. Its seems there is a lot
of room to be choosy, even for a soon to be greenhorn like me. Is there some other factor I'm missing. On the threads I don't see much in the way of a common term for a new trucker, like diving calls a newly minted diver a "tender", military has "boot" or even "FNG", etc.

    MidwestResident Thanks this.

Hey, @trokhos, just ran across your thread, welcome to the world of driving. How about an update on your schooling? Where are you taking your classes?
I work in your area, out of the industrial area off Willamette Drive in Lacey.

    Spyke Thanks this.

I am trying to figure out what gear I will need, stuff every trucker should have. I'm thinking of a big maglight, a good pair of boots, and a trucker hat. Beyond that, I could use some advice.
