A good driver should be able to log the way the FMCSA wants and still produce 1500 miles a week maybe 1800 a week tops with ELD. When this happens, pay will skyrocket and our nation will know prosperity it has not known since immediately right before World War II.

Tell your companies to quit hiring drivers and start giving you the miles. If companies were consisant then elogs wouldn't be an issue.

why? I've been on e-logs at 2 of the last 3 companies and I run no different on e-logs than on p-logs...well, maybe a little because the "to the minute" on e-log has more time left on my 70 after 8 days.

I'm in a 63mph truck on e-log and can manage a LEGAL 3k week. Anyone that can't should consider an alternate occupation.

That's not feasible in all areas though. Especially not the Northeast.

It's sad to see that Trucking is the most regulated industry in the nation and there's pressure to add more to it! If this does go down are there going to be devices for free for small business owners? Or will they be able to use apps on their phones? Kinda just scratching the surface when it comes to questions! If this is about safety then didn't Walmart, FedEx and Swift have Elds in there vehicles for awhile now? I personally believe that this issue needs further investigation and should be voluntary with incentives built in for Companies that choose to install them. What's going to happen to the Companies that stay within the 100 mile range or Farmers? Does anyone even know the wording of the legislation that's being argued about?

With all this talk about the "Captain of the Ship" I thought I was being paged, so I'll chime in.

While there are apparent privacy concerns regarding ELD's, the biggest problem is going to be companies that have, as a matter of day to day business, scheduled loads WAY too tight. Load planning is going be absolutely critical. "Just in time" loads are going to take a pretty major hit while the industry adjusts.

At least one article I've read suggests that the new ELDs will work differently from the EOBR's. Any time the key is on, it will log you on duty. No more staying on line 4 while you move from staging to the dock, as any movement will count against your 11.

There needs to be some flexibility here. I find it absolutely ridiculous that under some circumstances you might have to take your half hour break before you leave the shipper/receiver because of the on duty time you spent loading/unloading. Get in a traffic jam due to a wreck and stuck for 3 hours when you should have taken your 1/2 break an hour ago? Too bad, you're in violation. Got stuck at a dock for hours, and couldn't find parking where you were originally planning to end your day, forcing you to go another 20 miles up the road? Too bad, you're in violation.

Don't even get me started on the apparent incompatibilities between the US and Canadian proposed ELD rules.

If all you're doing is drop and hook then 3000 is easy. To break it down that's 428 miles a day, pretty easy to do. But loading and unloading takes times depending what you pull

But if you drive 20 miles up the road with paper logs you're still in violation, you just have the ability to lie, with elogs, the big bad super truckers are going to have to man up and accept a violation, it's no big deal.
I guess I'll log a lot of on duty time as I have the opti idle and leave the key in the on position, sigh

I drop and hook about every third or forth trip number, and I haul reefer freight outbound out of ND or MN/WI to various points around the country, then various backhaul loads to get back to ND or MN/WI. Ususally the drop/hooks are in ND or MN/WI.
