Am I reading this correctly? I did file mine with the DMV as instructed but thought we still needed to have it in our possession..

    (2) CDL/CLP exception. (i) Beginning January 30, 2015, a driver required to have a commercial driver's license under part 383 of this chapter, and who submitted a current medical examiner's certificate to the State in accordance with § 383.71(h) of this chapter documenting that he or she meets the physical qualification requirements of this part, no longer needs to carry on his or her person the medical examiner's certificate specified at § 391.43(h), or a copy for more than 15 days after the date it was issued as valid proof of medical certification.

Yes, not all states are up to speed. I had a level 2 last month in Texas and the LEO wanted my medical card.

    Concorde Thanks this.

Some states don't put it on your license. Maine for example, does not. This I learned in Kentucky. Glad I carry it.

I carry mine anyway, just in case the nitwit at the dmv screws something up with putting my medical card on file with my license, also as stated above, some states are not up to speed yet.

    Concorde Thanks this.

I got a level one in KY, she asked for mine, when I reminded her it wasn't required to be in my possession, she said I was right and that the computer she was using didn't have the capability to pull it up. She would have to have someone else pull it up on another computer. I pulled mine out and handed it to her.
Two lessons; first, carry the card anyway! Second, DOT is still stupid! They pass laws that their own officers still can't follow! Am I bashing DOT, yep!

I drove a week without a valid cdl this year because Crete faxed the wrong form to the BMV, I found out at home at least,
I ended up having to take my little medical card to the BMV and they made a copy and I was good to go

In North Carolina, once you send them the physical, they mail you a letter that says they received it and that it is on file! I also carry that letter!

I just got a new one back in June and don't carry it around. Just made sure it was on file at the DMV first. Technically you no longer have to.

    Concorde Thanks this.
