Renzenburger?!?! Yea right!! LOL. I would have some cash in hand to start. No I dont move around in RR life. I have to much seniority as an Engineer. IF u dont have much seniority, you can choose to "borrow out" to another location on a "part time" basis as the location needs people.

Maybe I should have stated that I have drove trucks before I got on with railroad. Now I just want a nice Peterbuilt 379 with a 70"+ sleeper.

Well UP and BNSF both have people layed off right now because it's slow and trucking isn't any different ..freight is slow and rates are down .

I used to work for Renzenberger in another life. I must say that the crews I carried were some of the most intelligent, interesting and funny guys I have ever met. Stay with the railroad, brother. Hate to see you make a trucking investment and lose it due to unforseen circumstances.

Yea. the slowed traffic doesn't affect me. I have been around for to many years. But understandable for starting a ned business.

Hate to say it but your probably looking at goin to school and working for a mega for a while as your insurability in a commercial vehical without recent experience will be astronomical.

Bruce Oakley might be what you're looking for. They're based in Arkansas.
Almost any city has intermodal terminals for trucking to rail heads.
Long Beach City College in Long Beach has a cdl school that specializes in training new drivers for intermodal and port work. You can take that training to any state.

Good luck. Sounds like your plan is doable.
I assume you'll buy an older truck considering you don't wanna drive all the time.
Btw, I happen to have a 379 with a 70" sleeper. It's been parked for 4 years because I took care of my elderly parents. I hope to have it back on the road before the end of the year.

You said it will be supplemental income. Go for it, you already have some experience! You will be able to choose what you want to do! I bought a Freightliner Century from a friend, have drug it through the chrome garden and
LED garden several times to the point it looks great! Lots of fun!
    Go for it friend!
