I have to agree with the others, hire an attorney. I have represented myself in 2 different courts in Pa and while I did win 1 I lost the other.
A little story for illustration purposes; I received a speeding ticket on 171 southbound between Columbus Ohio and Cincinatti (just north of the Cincy loop actually about 3 years back) and got caught in a speed trap with a bear in the air and half a dozen chase cars waiting to pounce a few miles down the road. They caught me doing 75 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Knowing it was a major violation I asked for some advice on the CB and a fellow driver recommended an outfit called Coast to Coast. I looked them up in the back of a trucking magazine and called them. They charged me $310.00 to represent me and about 2 months later was able to have my ticket dropped down to an equipment violation (specifically a blown headlight). Of course the fine was increased to $210.00 but at least it stayed off my license.
2 days pay lost by hiring this legal service but I would have had to take 2 days off from work, travel 500 miles 1 way, defend myself, get a motel room, and then drive back home the next day and probably have lost the case to boot. Moral to the story?
This is your livelihood so be sure to PROTECT it.
got a ticket

New driver here recently I've fallen in love with the quick ramp piss break, or quick meal. I rarely sleep on them though but was considering doing it more. Does anyone know what the fine is $ and what states care about it. Thanks guys. I love this website.
-
I do not have much info but I would love to see the list too.
But if it against your company policy I would not park there too long. -
hogwash i am a retired police lieutenant of 26 years, about to start trucking and this does not work.the calibration part.most law enforcement agencies have the newer radar devices that dont require calibration.if you were to ask me when was the last time i calibrated my radar gun,my question for my attorney( because i would have one) to ask you is to show us how to calabrate it.you lose. -
Maybe but you still have to test the radar gun on a regular basis and keep a log of each time you do it don't you?
If you can not provide that info and prove that it has been tested recently then the ticket will be thrown out. -
Not only am I a Radar Operator, but I'm also a State Cert. Radar Instructor for the state of North Carolina. Most state follow our Guidlines. I know with ours your required to have your Unit certified once every (12) months. Your also required to check your calibration after every enforcement action, and at the begining and end of each shift the unit is used. But theres no written log. So its all up to the Officer to tell the truth ( which hopefully he/she will).

Wow I was told by a laywer that they must keep a log of the checks.
Unless it varries by state to state or maybey it is just a city thing here.
I would not trust a cop to tell the truth around here even if I had a gun to his head.
One of the officers here was sleeping with the wife of a dep sheriff which was sleeping a person in the da's office.
The city cops wife got murdered by the cops lover the dep sheriff heard over his police radio that his wife was a suspect in the murder of the cops wife.
The dep sheriff and another cop took off and then pulled her over then the gun disapeared to top it off it was one of the dep sheriffs guns that was used in the murder.
That is why I do not trust cops too many issues arround here.
I got a ticket for disregard of stop sign the cop is a sargent certified in many things he testified making mistakes which I pointed out and I still lost the trial he and the judge are freinds and I am working on getting the guilty verdict overturned.
You may ask who do I know they are freinds before court off the record in front of me and others in court they set a date and time to meet.
I did not remember that it was the officer that pulled me over and did not really click in untill after court that the judge and him was the ones that made the date to get togeather or I would of asked the judge to recuse himself for the fact I could not get a fair trial with them being freinds.
I made the motion to set aside the judgment and have not heard back from them yet but I also put in it that if he did not offer me a differed sentance then I would move for a mistrial.
The main thing I do not want it to go on my mvr. -
Sounds like you should have had a lawyer. Too much of the good ole boy network.
-
What are you trying to fight? You said that you didn't have the city and state of your last stop on there,a line doesn't mean anything to that trooper except a log book violation[extra money]good luck with the speeding,I hear the fines are high up there,I would call a lawyer first
