what is their trucks like?

That's what happens when you are a flatbed driver at a company that mostly pulls van freight.

Extended frame cascadia. I do wonder if it rides better.

 

It rides just fine as long as the brakes are applied..

 

Slow.

With that said, Ive dealt mostly with western swift which would do better than those on the east coast.

Paying for a rider policy is not good news. Most companies allow a rider provided you sign a waiver freeing company from liability should something happen to that passenger.

 

Would I rather sign a waiver or pay a few dollars to insure my rider?

I would pay a few dollars to cover medical costs if something happened.

 

Can someone actually give me an idea about the trucks? Fridge and tv policy?

 

The trucks are fairly basic. No APU, no inverters, no fridge. They do have bunk heaters and rear ac but the heater only works with the ignition off and the ac only works with the truck running.

Inverters
If you use a CPAP for sleep apnea the shops will hardwire one you supply. No other inverters are allowed although most drivers have inverters that plug in to the accessory outlets which limit the wattage.

Fridge
All of the trucks have a cabinet opening to accommodate a fridge. There are several 12volt coolers that will fit. A true refrigerator will cost about $500 and are worth every penny if you have the pennies.

TV
The rule is no modification to the truck but there are a few ways to secure a TV. The right side cb antenna is also a TV antenna and there is a coax outlet in the truck.

Most of the new trucks are Cascadias with automatic transmissions and there are also some Kenworth and International models as well.

A laptop computer can double as a TV if you get a TV tuner. There are USB TV tuners that work well.
But there is a catch.
They only pull in local channels, and you have to scan for channels at each new location. And that can take some time.
You can expect to lose reception every time a truck passes by, and if you are not in an area with good signals you can forget it.

You could get a satellite dish, but many of the same problems are there. You have to set it up every time you want to use it unless you can securely mount it somewhere.

Netflix or the other streaming options are usually a better bet.

 

I was wondering what they allow or dont allow. Yes, im supposed to be midwest regional flatbed. It would be nice to get one of the new automatic cascadias for my truck assigned. It seemed like they dont have or allow much. Stupid, totally stupid...where MOST have or allow a lot. I can get a fridge as soon as i can...but would like a tv. Most with other companies use playstation or xbox and stream. Thats what i want. Kinda fuzzy...but i remember just seeing something to plug in and create your own "hot spot"...so you dont need a wifi signal. Like i said...i read they WANTED all mentor trucks to be automatics...and all going that way anyways. Hoping i get a new cascadia assigned later.

 

I know the new trucks have inverters, and i had read they were putting in some older trucks as well. Good idea, allows drivers to run stuff and not fry the wiring because of not so expert installer.
