Home? Ha. It's what you see on the convoy lead with a a good view of the scenery.
In the day there was a home in every port provided by good people. One of them you will marry some day.
There are advantages to being on the road.
If you ever get sick of it and you will from time to time, pick a spot and get off it for a while. But not too long. That costs you income. -
Beware!
That's exactly how I did get married!
She was a bartender in a motel
Had a killer butt.....x1Heavy Thanks this. -
When I was out on the road, my Sirius Satellite Radio subscription was the best money I ever spent.

I look at it this way - I'm making an investment in my future. You have to sacrifice a little bit in order to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor in the future. Yeah, it sucks at times, but if you could retire early and be home all the time, is it worth it? I still do have decent home time and get to enjoy spending time with the family, although it isn't as much as I would like. Then again, one has to balance work and home. It's kind of a no-win situation, but I knew that when I got into the industry.

I'm a serious introvert, prefer to be alone than with others, but my 1st year OTR was too much loneliness for me and I returned to a low-paying job I left for trucking. Later I got an OTR job where I could bring my beagle/border-collie mix with me. That was the key for me. I couldn't have been happier.
If you can't carry a pet talk on the phone a lot. Just don't talk about missing others. That's like talking about how hungry you are. Talk about anything but being apart. If you're an extrovert, being around people gives you energy & being alone drains your energy, you probably need to start working on being home more often. -
If you have an internet connection try podcasts. Just as cable tv gives you more choices than broadcast TV, podcasts give more choice that cable TV or Satellite radio.x1Heavy Thanks this.

I kept my own counsel. But usually draw on like minded people when in a stop trying to solve a problem someone might be having.
I used to say we would do well to fire the entire 535 person congress and hire 535 ordinaries from any old place and put them to work solving problems and they will do it. Just a opinion. One of many, right or wrong.
I also take correction and learning where I can. There is a love of learning, but not the book school kind. Ive tried that and held some I reckon, but tis hands and task that gets it taught. Not theory.
