Also if you don't work but one day a week and it does not pay what unemployment does you can file for the difference. A better idea in my opinion is do something part time, non CDL that would allow you to leave on a minutes notice and still sleep when you should be. What your company doesn't know won't hurt them. I had a trucker pick me up in an Uber a few weeks ago for a ride to a hotel and he said he did fairly well using this as a part time supplement.

Hog board sucks. Spring around April thru Fall it pretty much hits the fan.

feast or famine ? that gets old and doesn't pay the bill's unless you save and work 3 part time jobs.

I agree. It's not something I could ever do with a family, but might work for a young person with very few responsibilities.
The problem is that there's a lot of churn at the bottom of the board at those companies because not many people can deal with that very long. You might move up in seniority, only to drop back down as drivers below you quit. It shouldn't require 5 years of hell to get a steady paycheck.dca Thanks this. -
Hay man just hang in there. Are you working P&D or Linehaul? I was the bottom man at YRC for a while but it does get better with time. At UPS Parcel Im 10th from the bottom and still holding on for what is going to be a good job down the line. Don't forget this is an election year and all the freight companies have had an off year so just ride it out. If your gonna go on layoff talk to the steward and see if you can make yourself available for dock or do an extra linehaul run. Either way just hang on you made it to a good company just be patient.
