I didn't idle for the first time in over a week, the rain coming through Midland made it nice and cool. Good night's sleep.
This morning I fired up the '07 Freightliner and air pressure built nicely to cutout in the primary tank, but NO air pressure in the secondary tank. I considered driving it back to OKC but there isn't any air to the splitter, so I can't shift to high range.
Spent the day trying to chase down a cheaper option in Midland Odessa than going to the Freightliner dealership. The owner really wants to do a "quick and dirty" solution to get me back to OKC to his mechanic.
Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot and fix this? Without building any pressure in the secondary tank there isn't any pressure in the array of control air lines in front of it.
No air pressure in secondary tank

You aggravate me.
There should be a double valve between your dry tank and your wet tank. There are two tanks for air on your truck.
Get a hammer and tap that #### thing. Drain ALL tanks.
Crank and build air to pressure governor again.
If your sec fails to build. Look at your air dryer. Now this is where I get fuzzy. Im not inclined to try to diagnose the #### thing here at home....WrenchBender92 and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Try calling the local shaker dealer or wrench and ask if they can suggest where to look. I'm thinking it goes from compressor to splitter, to air tanks. So you have some small piece of debris in the line at one of those points, or bad valve at the entrance to the tank, or just inside the tank.
If you can get the line loose just before the tank, and there is a good air flow, you've isolated problem. -
Yes, follow the compressor Line to the spitter. That line should be warm because compressor is working right? You are building air. That splitter is the problem.
If it aint and you cannot fill like Dave said at the tanks your dryer will be the problem. You COULD think about isolating the dryer and splicing straight through but by OKC you are going to be either heaven, Hell or Freightliner FOR SURE. Once moister gets into your tanks, they travel to your brake chambers then begin to eat through the rubber dividing your service actuators and spring chambers.Lepton1 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
IMHO the dryer is shot. -
You can bypass the dryer and drain the tanks, that wouldn't explain the secondary not building. Get it into a shop before your on the side of the road without any air.
Big Don, Dave_in_AZ, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Secondary spitting water.
Your dryer is no good.
Drain your secondary all the way down, over night until it stops dripping. Your Primary too. Leave the tanks OPEN all night. Sit there. get some sleep.
Come morning maybe you can take your air dryer out of the equation and connect straight through and I bet you will have to go to dealer to clear the moisture from all 10 of your brake chambers soon. Like tomorrow.
Im very reluctant to let you run that rig. You don't maybe understand just how... dangerous to have fluid spitting and so on out of that sec tank. That is your dry Im betting. If so. Then your whole trailer is fluided, your tractor is probably too. Not to mention a rusted splitter shut probably.
Im banging my head on the frame trying to come up with something else. Maybe Isolate the secondary and just go with the primary remembring you have springs that will stop you and driving like you are gonna dynamite at any time.
And the Law is firm. No secondary air, No driving. Period. -
Now that splitter is a problem. I cannot recall if the splitter from the compressor divides into two via a double action valve with a divider in the middle equalzing the pressure you could try to worm a notebook spiral into it to force that valve open, but that means draining everything then wrenching that T fitting loose. And the problem lies further downstream from the splitter to both dry and wet.
My problem is I don't know if the air dryer is split for each tank or it drys all of it and further sends both to both tanks. Im not mcgyver but if I have to I can nurse a truck or computer along a little bit. Outrageously non DOT legal but I can do it. I just need to look it over and think. -
Well it looks like I can't get to OKC, but OKC is coming to me. The owner's trusted mechanic is driving here with a dually loaded with parts. Should be here tonight.
x1Heavy, Big Don and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
