Part of the reason mexico stays screwed is of course the corruption, no matter how much money is spent there it all goes to the top and even if somebody gets a factory job or whatever it pays a couple dollars an hour.
I hope it doesnt end up that way here too, seems like the direction its going.

Corruption isn't exclusive, happens in most American cities everyday. I believe higher employment rates, and standards of living will take care of alot of the corruption in poor countries. All those factories could have moved south rather than east had our government wished it.
RERM, LindaPV and daf105paccar Thank this. -
Everytime the US Government invest money into corrupt governments it never goes well.
-
Mexican government is mild compared to the ones we do.

We could make Mexico another state in 20 years with intensive efforts. I'll bet Cuba becomes a US territory in our lifetimes.
-
Don't know about Cuba, Czar Putin might have a fit.

Cuba
It isn't going to take much American influence to sway the populace.
Location, location, location. -
South Korea is a perfect example. That country still has slavery and the US government knows it.

Never underestimate corruption. The success and achievement of a society or nation is totally dependent on its people and nothing else. Mexico, with more landmass and natural resources than the tiny island of Japan, should for all intents and purposes have more wealth than Japan. Sadly, that's not the case.RERM, bluerider, LindaPV and 1 other person Thank this.

They have Gulf oil. Lots of it. The worst drilling rig disaster before Deepwater Horizon was in Mexico.
The govt owns the oil. Need I say more?
Viva Venezuela!RERM, bluerider, KriegHund and 1 other person Thank this.
