I was in quite a PITA spot today. Heavy equipment operating to my left, welders right beside me, pile driving crew in front of me and guys working above. Hardly any room to move the truck around, trenches dug everywhere. You really have to pay attention and take a step back and re-assess the situation a lot.

Yes he signed. Two more behind me unloaded there. He signed them too. No problems.

I remember that day like yesterday it was very interesting how that roofing foam sheets came off as a total bale on all three.

Im very happy to share that experience. He got chased. But it's not going to happen again, lol.

I'll add one more. Be careful as hell moving equipment. In the last couple months we had one operator lose 2 fingers in a skid loader. He will be back to work eventually. Then we had someone get their foot run over by a piece of equipment on Thursday. Those machines can kill or maim you real quick. A 20 year operator didn't pay attention for 10 seconds and now has to go through life 2 fingers short.

If I am the one loading the equipment, I am in the cab and the only one around the trailer. I don't even let anyone start taking chains off until I have the trailer on the ground.

If the operator is loading the machine I am standing on the rear bolsters directing him which way to go to load evenly. This does not happen very often unless there are 2 of us there picking up 2 loads and one drives it on while the other guides. Just makes it a little quicker.

Chains do not get put on until the machine is turned off. I am not losing a finger because of an idiot in the cab. Heck, a lot of the time the chains do not go on until the trailer is off the ground again.

    Had to resurrect this thread.

Delivered at a job site today and pulled in 6 inches away from some conex boxes to leave the road open. About 30 minutes later the guys that are going to unload me show up. I goal behind me then pulled forward and away from the conex, 4 ways on, toot toot the horn, and start backing up. For a split second I see a pickup truck coming up behind me and then he disappears. So I stop and toot toot again and see nothing. So I stop, set brakes, goal. Surprise surprise there he is right square behind me. He's getting out as I walk up and signals he needs to get into the conex. I tell him what an idiot he his in a very angry tone and he acts like he doesn't understand English so I told him "tu es el stupido." He seemed to understand that.

If I had been in my other mirror for that split second I woulda never saw him.

Was at the J in orange Texas last night. A driver was trying to be helpful by helping a truck with a wide load get backed in. As he was pulling him forward he had himself in between a drop deck and the driver pulling up. There was only about 3 foot of space between the truck and rear of the trailer and he was standing ther guiding the truck closer.
Luckily the guys foot didn't slip but I was thinking " man this could get ugly in a hurry."

I get real nervous when in situations like that, like when I'm backing into a car dealer's lot.

If you see people in your mirrors, make sure you can account for where they went.

One of my pet peeves is the guys that come flying thru the fuel island to park infront of the store. everytime i come thru without fueling I stop look left n right then proceed. there was an incident at a truckstop where a kid was ran over and died. after the guy fueled he pulled up and never seen him.
