This makes me sad...

i have never known a CT state trooper to drive the speed limits.

 

They cut the video short but it looks like the motorcycle was in the left lane merging into the center lane.
If that's the case the truck already had his signal on and was already making progress to change lanes. First come first serve, if the truck was the first to start entering the lane then the motorcycle is at fault for trying to enter the lane after the truck already started trying to.

Also, the cop seemed to wait until the very last second to try to avoid the situation. Anyone paying attention to the road could've seen what was about to happen and backed off.
Cops do have a lot of distractions though, but that's what their training is for. I remember asking why cops can use laptops and phones while driving and the answer was that they go through superior driving classes that train them how to handle it, if that's the case they should still be held to the same standard.

 

You have it right, if you watch from the first frame, the bikes are in the far left lane, they must have noticed the trooper coming up on them fast, and signaled to move into the center lane about the same time the tanker signaled to do the same. Good thing the lead biker was paying attention, he noticed the tanker coming over fast and did the only thing he could, jump back left. The trooper was the one who caused that whole mess, he was moving much faster than the flow of traffic. I believe the tanker had checked the lane and it was clear when he started over.

This is typical behavior of the Connecticut state troopers, they drive like animals all the time for no reason. In the Facebook thread I first saw this video posted there was a cop defending their behavior of driving too fast even when not in an emergency situation by saying they cover a lot of ground on a shift and if they drove slower or at the speed limits they would not be able to provide good patrol coverage. Total BS, they drive fast because no one is going to pull them over for it.

I hope the trucker takes this to court and wins, the trooper should be placed on suspension for his actions, he #### near killed a few motorists with his bully style driving. I had a NY trooper do this to me once, passed me on the right shoulder, and I know he wasn't responding to an emergency, he was in a suit and tie and was from Troop F and I was up in Albany which is Troop G, so he most likely was late for a court appearance or a meeting at the State HQ. Don't take me wrong, I support our law enforcement officers, but just because they have completed an EVOC course does not make them safe to drive faster than the rest of the traffic.

Sad but true. Connecticut state troopers are notorious for flying up and down interstates even if they're not responding to emergencies, and they always have a heavy handed approach to truck drivers to boot.

 

Maybe they will hire the law offices of Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe.

 

Yeah I think the officer had tunnel vision and couldnt see all the traffic around him to properly respond or judge the situation. Granted I have no law training. Yet if his lights were on (I am assuming they were not) people would have moved out of the way. Instead everyone was gravitating to the same spot.

 

Some meat heads never learn ..went thru the construction zones from brule ne to Sidney ne tonight at the speed limit and had white Volvo's glued to my ICC bumper weaving around .
I can see why these low grades have accidents .

I'm surprised they released this video.

I would think they'd be embarrassed about how the Trooper clearly didn't practice what they want to remind drivers of.
