Austin traffic sucks on an average day. It REALLY sucks on a Saturday when the Longhorns are playing a home game.

I used to haul 2 loads a day into Austin, and I don't miss it one bit. Not in the least.

    CargoWahgo and Upright Thank this.

I've found you can get through Austin at 2:07 am
But it's a great leg check any other time.

It's 13 miles to deviate via the toll road. If you have a fast truck and can/will run 72+ MPH, the toll road is almost always the best option in terms of TIME. However, weighing cost and time, you'll need to be avoiding considerable backup to make it worthwhile. The typical 2-3 mile slow&go backup, just in the downtown area, usually will not justify the toll option, but if there's also backups ongoing in the Round Rock area as well as extending down to or past 71/290 on the south side then the toll road is probably worthwhile. But it's expensive for somebody, even with the "reduced CMV rates" they have from time to time.

In the daytime, I can be a flustercuck from the north side of San Antonio to Hillsboro. And then of course, 35W will be jacked up, and 35 to Denton. 400 miles of frustration. In the day time, I'd cut through the woods.

Why build a toll road around your city to alleviate traffic if you are going to price it too high to use? If they had any common sense they would make it free for trucks passing through town to help with the congestion on I35 downtown. Greed overcomes common sense every time.

They plan to extend the toll road from North to South through all of Texas and no one will use it. Brilliant!

Actually, the Austinbahn has gotten almost as crowded as 35
But mostly cars, cuz they charge trucks a fortune.
I know a company that hires Mexican drivers to meet the trucks N of Austin and shuttle them south cuz it's cheaper than paying for the bypass.
