29 is a good solid radio. Never heard anything good, or bad about the Bluetooth. I doubt many drivers would use it, I have a hard time noodeling how the thing would even work?
I'd be curious to know what you think of it. -
Go get it aligned right, don't fall for the peak and tune crap. Don't buy any garbage noise makers or crap for it, get a good mic - ask the rabbi what's good. Get the antenna tuned right with someone who knows what they are doing and then use it if you want.
It really doesn't matter what radio you get, most of them are good and will do the job. These exports and 10 meter rigs are not the right rig to put into a truck, they preform marginally for the amount of money you have to spend to get them right.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Don't have a trailer to "balance", and 45K is considered 'light' ! Most 3 axle B Class tandem dumps are rated for 64,000lbs gross but point is NOT on Federal Highways, just everywhere else on 'state roads'.
I can "tilt back/level" a granite load for two reasons: 1) to take some weight of steers (which avg 15,000lbs) reducing 'bounce' on bridges and 2) by removing the above boards center 'hump' appear LIGHTER than actually am. LOL Good for avoiding "enforcement action" sometimes running HWY for short distances is simply unavoidable . . .
Ever try delivering to a large city midtown by using local back streets only??
Put 20 tons on, disable your trailer brakes, and you'll get an good idea of how fast a 3 axle tandem dump can stop. A good 24/7 working jake is essential!!
Don't the new Cobra's have a "scan channel" function? Agree the wifi/bluetooth seems a bit over the top. Used to have an AM/FM (forget if Cobra or not) with a CB built in - lost that years ago in a Hunt's Point breakin.
Cheers!!Moosetek13, TripleSix, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have a cobra 29 with Bluetooth, the non digital version. I love it. Hated wearing a headset. Calls come through clear and loud through the CB. I only call home, so that's the number my phone is on before I leave. Push the blue button on the mic, calls for you. One hand operation.TripleSix and TheDude1969 Thank this.

You're running a rock bucket?
Yep, you have to run a radio in and out of those quarries. That's a more difficult job than most think.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Stryker 497. Was running a cobra 148, but got the Stryker and like it a little better.
These guys that don't run radios I just don't understand.
Last Tuesday was running down a 2 lane out of AL down into FL. There was a tractor that pulled out onto the highway as I was going around a curve. I met a truck (mega carrier) and warned him on the radio. I look in the mirror and smoke is boiling out from under his trailer. He had no radio. If he had he would have had plenty of time to slow down cause I gave him plenty of warning.
I gave a cobra 29 to a young hand in a FL loves one night. He seemed very appreciative. Even hooked it up on the spot.
I just don't understand not having a radio.Mudguppy Thanks this. -
Did the same thing last week, Grave a guy my trusty old 25, antenna, and coax, used my 29 to set the antenna then sent him on his way. I hope he pays it forward some day.
Mudguppy Thanks this. -
That's pretty much what I told the guy too. If you ever buy u another radio or decide to leave trucking. Just give it to a new hand that don't have one. I got another 29 and a uniden pc78 in the truck still that i am planning to do the same thing with when the opportunity arises. And it will lol. Plenty of guys out there that were either told they didn't need one or just think they don't need one. When I went through cdl school our instructor told everyone, even if you think you don't need a CB, you do, so buy one. Even if it's a cheap one.

I run a Mirage 82, Predator antenna, good coax and have every thing tuned by Steel Rods in Remington, In.
This radio has paid for itself many times over in many ways. Not sitting behind accidents, getting a heads up about stopped traffic over the edge of a hill, knowing that a tow truck is hooking a big truck 4 miles before so I don't have to try to move over at the last minute. Name the situation and a radio can be a help. Trying to find a receiver in Louisville Ive never been to and have the local driver tell me to follow him right in. Knowing wether to take Briley pkwy around Nashville or go straight thru. Mine is always on, I may turn it down so I can listen to XM but if somethings going on ahead of me then Ill know about it. You don't have to have a big radio but you should have something, and have it turned on.
