I'm not sure that would fix it. Same as making shippers responsible for overweight loads. If shippers were responsible, they'd load trucks any old kinda way. And if you spoke up they'd tell you to let them worry about it. Because they are responsible, they'd do whatever they want.

There is also the other side of the coin. In my business we also load a bunch of trucks. We always ask the driver how he wants it loaded and try to comply. Sometimes the way the driver wants it loaded or secures it is unsafe or poses a risk of damaging the equipment. We have flat out refused to load a truck before when the driver is way out of line on securement but most of the time we just let them know the correct way and make sure they know that when they pull out of the lot, it's all on them. Some can get almost violent when you question their securement.

I've actually given drivers chains before because they didn't have enough to secure the load. The price of said chains is charged to the customer or trucking company, of course.

I've started putting my conastoga in the rear of the trailer at the start because I found that a lot of lazy forklift operators kept cheating back from center or where I told them to center so that they wouldn't have to wait for me to reposition my tarp.

If you give a lazy or rushed forklift operator an inch they will take a mile. It's your truck, your license, and your life. Don't back down. No load is worth loosing any for the convenience of a customer or shipper. I've had a couple load shifts already and they all could have been prevented if I had been for firm in the loading process and proper securement. I am working on that with each and every load. I don't want any more load shifts.

If one to have to wait any longer to get loaded the shipper would be paying for detention time for sure, if not then I guess I'd be looking for another load. Also if they wanted quite a bit of space between the items you could always put 4x4's between the items being loaded. I don't see any reason that wouldn't be satisfactory!!!

So you just offered him the same solution he wrote out in his first post?

Any particular reason you're going around responding to older posts with "advice" when the answer has already been posted many times?

I don't have a dog in this fight but ease your way onto TTR and always remember this. This site is like the country's bigges truck stop. Look for my post on that in the new drivers area.

This could be one of those times for the judicious use of the ignore feature that Mack recommends.
