OK, on one of my laptops I noticed the other day that the battery light should turn blue on the front of the laptop, but even when plugged in it stays orange.

So, I decided to see if the battery was working. I unplugged the cord and used the battery which worked quite well. I saw no issues running the battery.

After a few, I plugged it back in and the battery light was orange. Stayed that way for quite some time. The light did turn blue but took it forever.

    Is this a battery issue?

Cord seems fine is brighter when you plug the laptop in.

It could be a controller, probably in the battery. It charges, albeit slowly, so leave it plugged in as much as possible. Does the computer work OK sans battery? If you can come up with an interchangeable battery and power supply, you could switch things until you figure it out, it's probably nothing that would be worth fixing.

I need a motherboard for 1, my son has had it for a couple of years now, waiting to find 1 on E-Bay, I doubt it's worth it to fix it when you can buy a new duo-core for 100 more with a larger drive and more memory.

I prefer the desktop when I'm home even though it's been redone 4 or five times since 99.

The computer works great with or without the cord, which Iam thinking is good!
I just priced batteries, just in case....WOW!!! $150.00:biggrin_2554:

Parts for these things are crazy, way more than it is worth unless it will be the only thing you need. Glad it works either way, a new power supply is pricey, as well, not as bad as a battery, though.

The one I had was probably worth fixing, it was a business class with two power supplies and a nice bright screen. The keyboard was almost as good as the 1 the Lenovo has.

There should be a way to optimise your battery to your computer.. (some if not most have a bios setting that will adjust the batter power settings, this is different then setting power options in control panel, power settings.. look for this option in the bios, run it, takes an hour or two to finish)

Here is the best place to get troubleshooting flow charts.

This page has great info how to treat a battery and what you should do..

Simply could be your first sign that you are about to need a new batter or charger... if you are noticing a great deal in how long the batter is lasting fully charge then most likely your ready to get a new battery...

In the tip section you must let you battery go all the way down at least once a month- important (when its brand new you need to do this at least three times in a row to condition the battery.)

Most laptops (by default) will dim the screen when running off the battery in order to extend it's life.
