QFT. Incidentally, Chicago(and Chicagoland has a whole) has a the largest population of Poles outside of Warsaw,Poland. Also around Chicagoland their contributions to the US are greatly recognized from the beginning of our country (especially in particular Revolutionary War hero Kazimir/Casimir Pulaski-the northern portion of I-65 near Gary is named for him, a plus a few other streets) to the present.

Agreed, plenty of places and things named after General Pulaski (creator of American cavalry) in the USA.He was lucky enough to have a name much easier to pronounce than Tadeusz Kosciuszko who also distinguished himself in the war for independence and I think was a founder or one of the founders of West Point Academy and a personal friend of Thomas Jefferson.

I got the best of both worlds as my paternal great, great grandfather was Cherokee( he broke horses - dangerous profession if there was one). It seems my father's side of the family has a penchant for taking dangerous jobs, myself included. Lolcatalinaflyer Thanks this.

I have a small amount of Oklahoma Cherokee way back in the family tree on my fathers side but diluted to something like 6% for me. Both my maternal grandparents immigrated from Eastern Europe/Russia. I think there's some Pole on my maternal grandfathers tree but even ancestry.com gets a little fuzzy going back that far and Okies weren't known to be real open about family history going back a few generations either so my paternal grandfather's history gets a little fuzzy too.
What I do know is my paternal grandmother made some mean arse Indian tacos and my maternal grandmother could cook some of the most amazing "stick to your ribs" Eastern European comfort food I ever had the pleasure of eating. I used to get a kick out of listening to her and my mother/aunts/uncles in conversation at family functions as they would slip from English to German to Russian seamlessly in one conversation. My grandfather only spoke Russian and English so he would get a little miffed. Some of my older cousins learned all three but being the youngest child of the youngest child I only learned English and knew just enough German and Russian to understand I was about to get my arse whipped when mom was yelling.mjd4277 Thanks this. -
